What if you had to choose between your job and your marriage? A Wilson Woman says that's exactly what she faced. Former Wilson County Department of Social Services case worker, Latrice Woodard, got married and was then fired for an employment policy violation.
The Department of Social Services employment policy forbids two immediate family members from working anywhere in the department. Woodard lost her job when she married a man whose mother is a janitor for Wilson D.S.S. A rally to support the couple was held Thursday night.
More than 100 people attended the event at which Woodard and her husband spoke. The Reverend Thomas Walker says the community is rallying behind the Woodards to help change what they feel is an overly restrictive employment policy. Officials with D.S.S. say every employee reviews and signs an agreement to the employment policy prior to being hired.
