A Huge Victory For Emerald Isle Residents

They are a big part of the culture and heritage along the Carolina coast, but one by one, piers have been disappearing. That's why residents in Emerald Isle have been fighting to save one of the last remaining piers on the Crystal Coast.

Wednesday, they had reason to rejoice. The town has purchased the pier for $3 million dollars. The deal includes two other areas of land, including the pier house.

However, it's all contingent on the town getting a Clean Water Management Trust Fund Grant.

Eventually, the operation of the pier could be turned over to the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.
