That was the case for the streets around the Simpson home of Charles and Martha Butts in Pitt County. The area seemed to be draining until about 7 Friday morning when things took a turn for the worse. The couple's home soon filled with water, several inches in the house and about a foot in the garage. Volunteer firefighters helped place their furniture and belongings up on blocks to keep them dry, but the house will require expensive repairs when the water recedes. Fortunately the Butts live in a close knit neighborhood and their neighbors are making sure the two have a place to stay and food to eat. This is the third time the Butts' home has flooded in the past seven years.
