Goody's family clothing, which has ten stores in Eastern Carolina, will begin going-out-of-business sales as early as Friday.

The moderately priced clothing chain just emerged from bankruptcy in October but was unable to restructure terms with creditors. The Tennessee based company announced it will liquidate its remaining 282 stores in the southeast putting 10,000 people out of work.

This is the first high-profile retailer to go under in a new year that is expected to see many more going-out-of-business announcements.

I heard the shirt could be any solid color. Is that true? Shirts are no longer limited to solid colors. Per board approval, any shirt that has a collar and sleeves is acceptable. This is regardless of stripes or other patterns. Manufacturer’s labels may not exceed 3 inches by 3 inches in size. Are denim pants now allowed? No. Pants must be solid in color. Approved colors remain tan khaki, navy and black. As with shirts, labels that do not exceed 3 inches by 3 inches are allowed. Pants should not have more than 6 pockets, not including the coin pocket. Can students wear coats in the building again? Yes, with conditions. The length of the coat cannot exceed the straddle or crotch of the pants. Also, the coat must be free of screen-printing and graphics. Manufacturer’s labels may not exceed 3 inches by 3 inches in size. If I buy my child a shirt with an embroidered logo on the shirt, can they wear it? Yes. The logo may not exceed 3 inches by 3 inches in size. Please define color family? This means one of the colors of the material in the shirt or pant. Please clarify what you mean by a flip-flop? Discussion of the board mentioned the need to have a strap across the heel. Are there any changes from last year’s employee dress and appearance policy? No. All previous dress/appearance guidelines for employees still apply.

Posted by: Annie Nonomus on Jan 9, 2009 at 11:07 AM
To Disappointed: Maybe you need to read the uniform policy again. It changed last year or before. Pants stayed the same and you can get them anywhere. Shirts have to have a collar. The only three color scheme went out the door.

Quite honestly I wouldn't care how poor I got, or how many stores went out of business, I would still not go into walmart. Walmart is equal to going to the dentist for me. I can't stand their monopoly of a business.

I like Goody's, bought a pocketbook back at the end of Oct. I don't go there that often; I like Penney's and Belk better. I saw on tv earlier, everything's 70% off!

im losing my job..goodys in roanoke rapids is closing as well....been there 2 and some years...gonna miss it too...

Posted by: to Disappointed on Jan 8, 2009 at 12:55 PM
They sell the same shirts at good old WalMart-- shop there as others have. That's why my fav store of all time, Goody's is closing.

Posted by: Disappointed Location: Washington on Jan 8, 2009 at 10:24 AM
Now where are the children going to get clothes that are within the guidelines for the Washington Uniform Policy????? I cannot afford to travel to Greenville or other towns. They don't have anything to offer either since their schools now have enforced the uniform policy too. I guess I'll have to buy a sewing machine - lol

Posted by: Buzz Location: IBX on Jan 8, 2009 at 10:13 AM
I don't care about Goody's in particular. My Wife liked Goody's, I would drop her off and go find some place with rods/reels, tackle and etc. come back and pick her up. But I hate to see it close, mostly because of the downline effects of any store closing. When a store closes, espesially a chain, it creates extra unemployment, it affects vendors, causes added "panic" with everything else going on. I hope we are at the bottom of this cycle and we can soon turn it around. Buzz-

I am sick to hear that Goody's is closing. We do not have a store in Raleigh, and I frequent the stores in Wilson, Rocky Mount and Greenville when visiting friends. So sad!!!

Posted by: faithful customer Location: kinston on Jan 8, 2009 at 06:23 AM
well that about finishes kinston up!! First proffits now Goodys no where left to shop in kinston for good deal will have to go greenville.

Posted by: Sandra Location: Washington on Jan 8, 2009 at 12:22 AM
It is a shame about Goodys and others who will be closing. It all goes back to the gas prices and people can not do any buying with the gas prices like they were. The sad part is now gas prices are going up again. Jobs are being lost. Our goverment needs to put the brakes on this. Put a cap on it. If it goes pass 1.50 people stuffer. This is sad times for us all. We need to pray for our leaders.People need to go to work and buy food, buy meds.clothed thier families, keep lights on. Please we all need to pray.

First, I hate that all of these people are going to lose their jobs. Next, I hate to see the stores close because that is where I buy all of my clothing and you can always get great deals. You go to Wal-Mart and buy a pair of levis and wash them one time and they start falling apart, but yet you buy them at goody's and they don't fall apart. Plus goodys is the only place that I can find clothes to fit and look descent on my two daughters. I wish that something could be worked out for them to remain opened.

Posted by: Ashley Location: Washington on Jan 7, 2009 at 10:05 PM
Lynn of wilson...its not the Owners fault that they have to close there stores....my brother had a business and when no one is buying anything and your sick and tried of spending all your saving to just keep the business up then you have to close....I work at belk i hope we dont close at this point we are not which is GREAT...i hate to see goodys close or any other store its sad.

Posted by: anonymous Location: washington, nc on Jan 7, 2009 at 10:02 PM
To customer: Have you been downtown lately?? There is a store where sunflower books used to be that carrys some women's sizes and the prices are good.

Posted by: Predictor 5k Location: NC on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:58 PM
Skip Holtz to BC...details at eleven.

Posted by: Customer Location: Washington, NC on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:13 PM
I would shop downtown if there were a place that sold women's sizes. The little cute shops are great, but the ones I have visited in downtown Washington were not reasonable for a lot of people and we are all not little people.

Posted by: anonymous Location: Washington, NC on Jan 7, 2009 at 07:41 PM
I hate to hear it but instead of running to Greenville, why not support some of the local shops downtown Washington. There are 2 or 3 new ones that are really nice and reasonable.

I heard Sam's Club is on the chopping block. Is there any truth to that?

Posted by: Robert Location: Greenville on Jan 7, 2009 at 06:23 PM
Any store that has good deals, like Goodys, Steve and Barry's always close. The best to shop is the good will and salvation army. A lot of times you can buy new clothes there that stores donate. I also miss Boston Market in Greenville, great food at a great price. You thank Bo-angles and P-rkers bbq for the new East Carolina Heart center and the rise in health insurance. I eat there to, great food! lol

It is easy for some to say we asked for a credit card but that was our job we didnt get paid extra for you opening that account but we still had to ask...but please stop calling us and yelling at us we like the situation alot less than you do afterall we are without a job real soon...and this is all just a slap in the face for us anyways.

Posted by: L Location: Wash., NC on Jan 7, 2009 at 04:46 PM
So sorry to hear this! Good place to shop, great deals and nice employees. Wonder who will go out of business next?

Posted by: J Location: Gville on Jan 7, 2009 at 03:39 PM
They are required to ask you about that credit card no matter what. The one in Greenville hasnt had the best track record for good managers either!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 7, 2009 at 03:15 PM
Sorry for the people losing their jobs, but other than that, good riddance to a crappy store with crappy clothes. There is also a store in Elizabeth City, for anyone who is counting.

Posted by: snowingseason Location: Washington on Jan 7, 2009 at 03:06 PM
Actually "goodys shopper" your balance will more than likely not be erased. It will be bought out for pennys on the dollar by some other credit company...yet you will still have to pay the same amount.

Posted by: John Location: Greenville on Jan 7, 2009 at 02:59 PM
Oh wow this many people actually shop at Goody's I am sorry. Survival of the fittest...but no tears from here. :-D

Posted by: Animama Location: Washington on Jan 7, 2009 at 02:34 PM
To "shopper" who shopped in Washington, NC; so did I, but didn't hear anything about the stores closing. They did try to get me to apply for a charge card. Guess that would have been more dimes in their pocket!

Posted by: citizen Location: Greenville on Jan 7, 2009 at 02:33 PM
beware store closings... liquidators come in and bring merchandise the store has never sold, and often mark it up 200-300 % so they can take 50% off of it and the average person thinks it is some kind of an amazing deal.

Posted by: S Location: Rose Hil on Jan 7, 2009 at 02:15 PM
There is also a Goody's in Clinton and Wilmington and I have shopped at both. Love them. I buy 95 percent of my daughter's clothes there and I really hate they are going out of business. That only leaves Peebles, Catos, or Wal-Mart in Wallace for me to shop since I despise going to Wilmington. Peebles and Catos have got to where they have absolutely nothing to choose from.

Posted by: Geez on Jan 7, 2009 at 02:02 PM
Say it "ain't" so!

Posted by: Goodys Shopper on Jan 7, 2009 at 01:53 PM
So does this mean that my credit card balance will be erased????

Posted by: disappointed Location: la grange on Jan 7, 2009 at 01:50 PM
I really hate to see them close - it's not b/c I wasn't doing my part. There is always a good sale going on. I buy almost all my clothes and a lot of clothes for my teenage daughter there. I love the goldsboro store and there are a lot of good friendly people there who will now be jobless. This is a terrible shame!!

Posted by: Lynn Location: Wilson on Jan 7, 2009 at 01:40 PM
It a shame that the owner let the business go down. Goody's was a good place to shop with reasonable prices! We will miss you, GOODY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im losing my job

Posted by: unk on Jan 7, 2009 at 11:29 AM
I will greatly miss this store. It sold quality items at a fair price. I hate to see them go, but in an economy that rewards the big guy and forgets the small guy, I'm not surprised.

Posted by: J Location: Gville on Jan 7, 2009 at 11:20 AM
OOPS, I meant the Goody's in Greenville.

Posted by: Mama Mia Location: Wilson on Jan 7, 2009 at 10:40 AM
I guess Wilson will have nothing left, but marshalls for nice inexapensive clothing and Rocky Mount will just have the mall. I guess the goverment is to worried about the "car" industry they are forgetting the lil ones again.

Posted by: J Location: Gville on Jan 7, 2009 at 10:12 AM
Dang, i worked at the one in Goody for like 3 years! Met one of my best friends there!

Posted by: betty Location: cortland on Jan 7, 2009 at 10:04 AM
So sorry to hear that Goody's is going out of business. Every time I'm in Greenville I stop at Goody's and ALWAYS get a deal there. People are so friendly there. So, so sorry.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 7, 2009 at 09:46 AM
I believe if we start counting the ten that WITN listed as in Eastern North Carolina, we will probably count up Greenville (1), New Bern (1), Washington (1) Kinston (1), Jacksonville (1) Morehead City (1). That's just 6, maybe someone else know's the others. This may go into Wilmington, and up to Raleigh? But 10 about covers us. I hate to see them go, that's the only place I buy clothes too!!

Posted by: shopper Location: nc on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:52 AM
I was in the Washington NC store during Christmas and heard that they were going out of business. It's sad that the economy is in the shape it's in.

Posted by: Rob Location: NC on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:52 AM
Thank you Wal Mart!

Posted by: Amy Location: Greenville on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:40 AM
ALL Goody's stores are closing

Posted by: Me Too Location: Washington on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:36 AM
That leaves us Belks and WalMart...not much choice. I guess we will have to take our money to Greenville.

Posted by: Me on Jan 7, 2009 at 08:10 AM
That stinks!! Goodys is the only place I buy clothes.

Posted by: Lakisha Location: Greenville on Jan 7, 2009 at 07:25 AM
Witn, are the stores in Washington and Greenville being closed?
