School Funding Trial Starts

Testimony got underway Monday in the court case Beaufort County Schools versus Beaufort County Commissioners. Lawyers representing both sides presented opening arguments to the jury in the morning.

Beaufort County Schools Superintendent Jeff Moss was the school system's first witness. Moss testified for several hours on why the school system needs more funds than last year.

The lawyer representing the county commissioners argued the schools are adequately funded and the school board is seeking funds it wants rather than needs. Initially the dispute centered around $1,000,000 in funds. However, during court the attorney representing the school board said he's asking the jury to award the school system over $2,900,000.

The trial resumes Tuesday morning.
