No Hike For Sales Tax

One county in Eastern Carolina was hoping an increase in the sales tax would give them the money they needed for school construction. But that's going to have to wait.
Friday, state Senate Democrats killed the half-cent sales tax increase that Pitt County officials had been lobbying for for two years. State lawmakers said fixing medicaid costs, which is a big expense for counties, is more of a long term solution. Those pushing for the sales tax increase say they are disappointed. They also say they want state lawmakers to help them find solutions for the facilities crisis in Pitt County Schools.
