Dewitt Street in Jacksonville may stay just like it is, destroyed and closed for at least a year. The street was destroyed after the dam holding back Elizabeth Lake began to fail. City engineers say they have three options to fix the dam. One is to leave Dewitt Street closed indefinitely, but stabilize the dam. Another would require a bridge or culverts to allow the flow of water. And the last is to repair the road and dam completely.
