What on Earth Streaked Through the Skies of Eastern Carolina Tuesday Night?

Several viewers called WITN to tell us about their sightings. Everyone's description was similar. A bright green, blue or purple object was streaking across the sky.

We asked Shawn Latch, an astronomy instructor with East Carolina University, what it was. He says it was a bolide, a meteoric fireball.

A bolide is a piece of rock about the size of a quarter or golf ball. Once it enters the earth's atmosphere, it lasts a few seconds and can be seen for a couple hundred miles.
