A mother and her two children woke up to smoke and flames engulfing their home Tuesday morning. Now Washington resident Tammy Pridgen is without a home and wondering what to do next. Authorities responded to the blaze around 3 a.m. at 4th and Tarboro. Authorities say Tammy's son alerted her that the car was on fire and by the time she gathered her other son, just 20 months old, the blaze was ripping through her entire home, destroying everything. She's just thankful she and her family are alive. An official from the Washington Fire Department says right now they are ruling the fire suspicious. For now, Tammy and her family are staying with family near Grimesland. The Beaufort County Red Cross is also assisting with the family's needs.
