Some 330 workers were arrested in a raid at the Columbia Farms plant in Greenville County.

A company based in Raeford, N.C., called the House of Raeford owns the plant.

A regional coordinator for the Catholic Charities of the Piedmont Region said several churches and ministers also will help.

At the risk of sounding cliched--what do you people who cry moon tears for illegals not understand about the word "ILLEGAL"? At the risk of being called heartless, I do not believe that a child should be called an American citizen unless that child has at least one American parent. A naturalized citizen is considered an American. I do not wish any one to be barred from coming to work in America if they do it legally.

To PlugUgly, thats exactly my point. If welfare was cut off you would see alot more Americans going back to doing these jobs so illegals would not be needed.

I would like to say, that I am proud of these people that are trying to help these families. We need more people like you! For the ones that have an issue with these illegal immigrants i ask that you remember this, When you decide to have a slice of tomato keep in mind and thank that illegal immigrant that picked it for you to eat. I as an American Citizen, wouldnt want to have to work like these people have to make a living. So I thank all that are trying to help these families that have been effected by this.

Maybe the INS agents should check around Eastern NC at some of the big farm co-ops thaat are harvesting sweet potatoes and others now. It is not unusual to 2-3 busloads come in for the job. I'm sure all of them are legal, right? The local Wal-Marts on Friday-Saturday evening would be a good place to check green cards of shoppers. But that isn't going to happen. NC government turns a blind eye to the immigration problem. As far as helping them out with legal counsel. The only help I suggest is getting them OUT of the country and back where they belong. Bag 'em and tag 'em. Let's get a grip on this and quit handing out money and freebies for them to enjoy while the rest of us are footing the bill.

Really ??? I doubt that American Citizens would do that kind of job, why should welfare recipiants leave the comfort of their couch to pluck entrails out of birds? Illegal immigrants do jobs 'Americans' feel are beneath them, which apparently includes a wide range of things that require them to actually work.

you know as much as i dislike illegal anything i have to feel sorry for the families of these people... you know the kids that were BORN here and are U.S. citizens. they are the ones who pay the price.... mommy and daddy get shipped back to where they came from, now WHO is going to take care of the kids????

Isnt this just lovely. You have people breaking American laws, and liberal groups that I am sure the Demobrats are very fond of trying to help them get away with it.Remeber, breaking the law by entering the country illegally is a crime. If America would cut off the free handouts, American citizens would go back to doing these jobs and these companies wouldnt have to hire illegal aliens.

I can"t believe bleeding hearts of america are condoning illegal activitys. Its about time government has stepped in too do something about this illegal immigration. When things where going great government and people in genreral turned a blind eye to it while companys, farmers etc sneaked them into the system. Now that the economy is in a down turn and spending has become an issue it has come to the attention of government of how much illegals are drainin gon this nation and its legal citizens.
