A scary scene for an employee opening up for business this morning.

Bethel Police say a suspect, armed with a gun, walked up behind an employee at the Hatu's quick stop on east Washington Street put the gun to the workers back and told him to go inside.

The suspect demanded money from the safe and once the employee complied the suspect ran off.

Call Bethel police if you have any information on this crime.

I was raised in Bethel and I absolutly will never go back there (to live) again!! My parents and aunts/uncles still live there and I am just glad that they have their own protection b/c police in Bethel are scarce and always have been. I guess b/c of the small population but there are still huge crimes!!

Hmm, the name of the store might have been the reason for this robbery. What a scarey thought. How are people ever going to get along with this kind of nonsense?

God bless the victim. I know the fear. I'm still trying to put my last ordeal behind me. There have to be better laws enacted to attempt to deter this type of crime from occurring again and again. It's a spine-chilling experience to just see a gun, but to have one put to your back or your head is a horrible trauma. The laws have to become tougher on these people who evidently have not much to lose to begin with. What's the problem with eliminating them once they are apprehended so that the next one with thoughts of re-enacting the same type of scenario will know that his/her life is over if they follow through and threaten another person's life. The lawmakers need to learn that ACTIONS do speak louder than WORDS!!! A few examples may help, like other countries where you lose a tongue for lying or a hand for stealing. These people should have to feel the fear of a gun in their face and maybe they would develop some regard for life. If not, they need to be removed from society...

Bethel's police dept. is in desperate need of equipment. They only have 1 or 2 police cars operational. Why is this so?? Don't our town have any money to help out our policemen??
