A new national poll suggests Barack Obama maintains a 7-point lead on John McCain, and that Sarah Palin may be a drag on the Republican ticket.

The Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll of registered voters found 46 percent of respondents backing Obama to 39 percent for McCain. That's about the same as it was late last month.

On the vice presidential picks, the poll suggests Obama's choice of Joe Biden makes people 11 percent likelier to support the Democrats. But Sarah Palin appears to be an 8-point drag for the Republicans.

Half of those surveyed said the economy is the election's top issue, with nothing else coming close. And 50 percent indicated they had more trust in Obama to handle the economy, while 35 percent said McCain.

Asked who they expected to win, respondents picked Obama by a 3-1 margin.

Red State: ABSOLUTELY!:)

Exactly VBush, but I figured you would know it. Lincoln most often gets credit for that particular interpretation of the scripture. Regardless, quite a fitting quote when those using it for a punchline are indeed removing all doubt.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Oct 15, 2008 at 04:06 PM
Red State; Lincoln said it, so did Mark Twain and it goes a little further back than that...Proverbs 17:28.....and last but not least my English Lit. teacher in H.S.:) He was the one that burned that phrase so indelibly into my brain some years ago.LOL.

Palisux, I usually don't respond to comments like yours, but I just felt the need to point out that you made my point. Thank you.:)

I feel the need to repeat myself since my comment wasn't posted. I encouraged MAN and Obama/Biden to go ahead and use that catchy little phrase that they find so amusing since probably neither one of them know who actually said, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." Your hint is it was a Republican President. So he was probably just some old racist, right?

Well, VBush, when it comes to fecal material, "if the shoe fits..."

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Oct 15, 2008 at 09:17 AM
Devil Dog; The majority of this thread goes to exactly what I have said many times. The posters supporting the conservative side are primarily well thought out reasoned responses, versus the other side that contain no informed positions, just the usual vitriolic diatribe that is short and uninformed bumper sticker fecal material. Hopefully Red State is correct in her observation about polls and the morons won't be able to find their polling place.:)

I don't know but the way I see things there is a huge deference between a fan and supporter. Not only did she mistake supporters for hecklers, she had a known drug addict singing there. Hank Williams Jr. has been a drug addict most of his life, he is nothing but scum. I guess she had her whole family there, I am sick of looking at them.

To Rich, No Palin need to get smart.

Posted by: Rich on Oct 14, 2008 at 07:24 PM
Little Woman- True, she did mistake supporters for Hecklers but if you'll read the whole story you'll see where there were over 20,000 screaming fans in attendance. Here's the quote: A massive crowd of at least 20,000 spread across the parking lot of Richmond International Raceway, and scores of people on the outer periphery more than 100 yards from the stage could not hear. "Louder! Louder!" they began chanting, and the cry spread across the crowd to Palin's left. Some pointed skyward, urging that the volume be increased. An honest mistake that anyone could have made. Leave it up to you Dems to find something negative in it. You guys really need to grow up.

To: Obama Supporters If Barack Obama would apply for a job with the FBI or with the Secret Service, he would be "disqualified" because of his past association with William Ayers, a known terrorist. If he is elected President he would not qualify to be his own body guard, yet he will become Commander-in-Chief. How can you justify voting for him?

Posted by: "ROFLMAO" on Oct 14, 2008 at 06:31 PM
To Devil Dog, You know what, you know an awful lot about the type of women that would vote for Obama. I am thinking that your wife may be an Obama woman. How MANY KIDS DO YOU HAVE?

Palin is opposite alot of the woman who would vote for OBAMA. She is married and knows her the father of her children is, raises and pays her childrens own way, goes to church, has moral values, educated, works hard, and inspires others.

Guess who else was leading in the polls at this time before their elections? John Kerry and Al Gore. Jimmy Carter was ahead by 30 pts in '76 and only won by 1 pt. so I wouldn't get too confident if were a Dem. which I would never be. I'll tell you about a poll. This county polls at 60% conservative. Most of the people who say they will vote for Obama probably don't even know when election day is let alone how to get to the voting booth.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 14, 2008 at 04:30 PM
I find it hard to believe that Obama is leading McCain in the National Poll. Who exactly are they polling? I have not been polled and the majority of the people that I have talked to, have not taken a poll. I am very confident that McCain will win the presidency. I am looking forward to seeing Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin in the White House. They are definitely the right people to be leading our country.

Posted by: Rich on Oct 14, 2008 at 03:57 PM
Lavon- Again, you may want to do a little Research and back up your posts. Sarah Palin wasn't a member of the Independant party and never wanted to seperate herself and Alaska from the rest of the country. If you do some research you'll find that her Husband was once a member but she isn't.

Posted by: Little Woman on Oct 14, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Palin mistook supporter for hecklers at her rally, now that is funny I don't care who you are. "WHAT A HOOT" way to go "Sarah Six Pack" may she knows more about six packs than she is telling. You all think she is fit to be VP, maybe in your dreams or after you have a six pack or two. Think again if you don't think she is a drag\idiot and a lot of things that WITN won't let us post.

Posted by: lavon Location: kinston on Oct 14, 2008 at 03:33 PM
Hey why haven't you rupubs said anything about Sarah Palin and the alaskan independance party. Here she is talking abut country first while at the same time she's talking about seperating herself and the rest of alaska from america....how pathetic is this woman?

Of course Palin is a drag. Anyone who won't put up with crooked politicians from their own party would certainly be a drag. When the crooked Reps jopin the biased mainstream press against someone, it is bound to create a drag. Heaven forbid that anyone with honesty or integrity be elected VEEP - or any other political office..

Palin is not a drag. She has moe energy than any of the others running. The liberal news media is running the election. They have decided who they want.We really need our election process revised.

So what makes Sen. Obama qualified to lead the country? What has he done? And I have to mention that I permanently injured my back in the service...VA benefits are NOT a hand out!

Posted by: lavon Location: kinston on Oct 14, 2008 at 10:08 AM
Explain why Palin's and idiot?? Thats got to be the question of the century right there. You think it might have something to do with the fact she can't even name one Newspaper that she reads even though she told Catie Couric she reads all of them....Lol!! You think it might have something to do with the fact tat she didn't answere one question from the moderator in her debate, instead she said she wouldn't answer her questions and started giveing a scripted speech. Yeah I would say that qualifies her as an idiot.

Posted by: Bob on Oct 14, 2008 at 10:07 AM
TO @@@- Thats a pretty cheap shot for you to say VA Benefits and SS benefits are the same free handout. You may want to rethink that opinion. First, VA benefits are EARNED for serving our Country, I personaly think they should have more than what they get. As for SS Benefits, They are not FREE handouts, You only get SS benefits if you've paid in to the system. You may want to do a little Research next time. Now if your talking about Medicaid then I would have to agree with you.

VBush- I read Marwan's post in its entirety. No, it didn't make a difference. I don't dispute any of the info entirely but I still think that Obama is a better choice for POTUS. And I need to say. Everyone that is voting for Obama, or McCain for that matter, isn't ill informed or suffering from a short attention span. We just have different opinions and views. I don't blame you for voting McCain if he has your best interest at heart. The only people that bother me are the ones who won't vote for Obama because of his race. Both candidates have had dealings with shady people (as have you and I).

Posted by: Rich Location: NC on Oct 14, 2008 at 08:51 AM
To all you guys calling Palin an Idiot, Please explain your comments. If you don't want to vote for her that's your right, but to call her an Idiot or a Loser for getting booed at a hockey game is a little childish. Can you honeslty tell me that Either Biden or Obama would NOT get booed at a Hockey game? If they did, doesn't that make them a loser as well. Think about it Lavon.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Oct 14, 2008 at 08:29 AM
I wonder if Lavon and the rest of the Obama kool-aide drinkers will read MARWAN's post under the article about 'McCain Asks NC Faithful To Fight for New Direction'? If she(they)do will it make a difference to them? Will they go and search the information to verify it? Or will they simply dismiss it and go blindly to the polls to vote in Obama? My guess is that even in the face of FACTS they will be like most liberals and vote for Obama anyway. I will go even further and say they don't even bother to read those posts, after all it may take more than 30 seconds since there are 6 of them and most of them take the entire space allotted. Short attention spans do not mix well with real information.

Yes Cathy, it will be national arab day! Just last night a poll was revealed that identified that 80% of Americans were afraid of Obama and 14% were afraid of McCain. I guess the other 6% just had no clue. Media would have Obama ahead in the polls but this will mean nothing come election day. In the coming days most will start seeing the "facts" about both canidates. Most liberals will deny it as "lies", this of course is the easy way out. Seems Lavon still has not fixed that old turntable. The next track on the album is the sheep song. Baaaahhhhhhhh

Polls can be made to say anything you want, depending upon how you ask the questions. I support neither McCain nor Obama, both are liberal democrats as far as I'm concerned. I doubt most folks think of Palin as a drag on the ticket, she's the only thing McCain's got going for him at the moment.

Posted by: Brad Location: Greenville on Oct 13, 2008 at 08:38 AM
To Lavon, You and the rest like you unfortunately don't have a clue as to what the truth really is. Let me ask you this; where do you think obama gets the massive amount of money he is spending on his campaign? Why do you refuse to accept the FACT that obama is neck deep with Fannie and Freddie? Why do you refuse to accept the FACT that the dems caused most of this by forcing lending institutions to give loans to people who could not afford them? Why do you continue to blame the republicans when the dems have the majority of control? I'll tell you why. You want a black man as president so bad that you overlook the needs of the country. People like you are the reason our country is currently in the condition it is in.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Oct 13, 2008 at 08:19 AM
Ron, I think that Lavon and Little woman's has my old turn table. You have to bump it, to get to play the rest of the album. Being that they are stuck on the canidate and not what he stands for is typical liberal rhetoric. They have not facts to support their argument. Some of the posts here show how they "hate Bush" and blame what the democratic houses have done. Maybe they haven't heard of Barney Franks yet. Obama is very clearly a socialist. He is the only one out there not telling the truth, not Bush. Before you count their chickens they need to understand that the polls favored Carter when he lost the election. Oopps, confusing the issue with the facts, that confuses liberals. I am proud of my country for what they did in Iraq and Afganistan. There will be peace there soon if we stay the course and finish the good we started.

Lavon- Can you give any examples How President bush "Has Completey destroyed the American way of Life". If you're referring to the War in Iraq and Afganistan I really don't see how that destroyed anything. While no one wants War, sometimes it is necessary. If your saying that he Lied about Iraq having WMD, well my Friend, Do a lillte Research, Seems like the last president thought the same thing. Does that mean he was lying to us too? You can't talk out of both sides of your mouth. Also, you seem to have forgotten a little speach from your Candidate's spouse a few months ago where she said the same thing, you know, about being Proud of her Country. I'm just doing some Fact Checking.

where do they get these poll numbers from? It sounds made up.

Posted by: Ron Location: Merritt on Oct 12, 2008 at 09:55 PM
The reason many Republicans are so vehemently against Obama is that he is a total socialist and is telling lies to get elected, just as Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton told lies to the voters. Both these socialists went right to their agendas of higher taxes, decimating our military, imposing Marxist idealogies, and generally harming our great country. Obama will do the same things, and intelligent people know this. Mark my words, all you gullible sheep who think Obama will save this country are in for a rude awakening if he gets elected. This country has been going steadily downhill since 2006 when the Democrats lied their way into a majority in the Congress, and it will be even worse if Obama is elected President.

I never thought I'd be saying it, but I have to agree with Talon on this one. I'm tired of all the back and forth too. Let's get it over with already. I wouldn't mind moving to a republican state at all. At least when I go to get gas, I will understand the cashier. I might have to do my own roofing and landscaping but such a small price to pay to keep the illegals and resident aliens out.

I think everyone should know everything they can know about the person they vote for to run our country. You are so worried about people trashing Obama but you do the same thing when it comes to McCain and Palin. What is the difference? Tonite Hannity's America at 9pm on fox.

Windy- You may want to do some fact checking before you post. Please follow this link regarding Obama's childhood: http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/04/illogic_and_rhetoric.php or just do a google search. To quote parts of the article in case you can't pull it up : "he was never poor, but he did not grow up rich, and though he went to an elite Hawaiian private school, he did so on scholarship". As far as Mccain goes, are you saying that ANYBODY'S spouse that has Money is being used? So, If you married a Rich Man does that mean you are using Him? Between McCain's retirement income and ALL his years as a senator, I'm sure he would be just fine by himself.

Posted by: Obama/Biden on Oct 12, 2008 at 03:17 PM
Sally, You can forget Hannity telling the true story of Obama. What a joke. He's full of you know what. But you seem like the kind who will eat up every word he says. Not ME.

Posted by: Lavon Location: Kinston on Oct 12, 2008 at 02:44 PM
I have a question. Why are republicans such sore losers. I mean just look at some of the post from the repubs in here. You have so much rage and anger when people don't agree with you. Just look at Mccain's rally's, just listen to some of the remarks that some of those people make. Listen at the people scream 'kill him" "off with his head" "Traitor". What in gods name is wrong with you people? Why don't you repubs go find you some cheese to go with that whine!! Lol!!

Posted by: Windy on Oct 12, 2008 at 01:03 PM
Look people I want to know when you are going to decide that trying to trash Obama will never work and you are wasting your time and money. Obama knows what it is like to be poor he grew up poor, while your man McCain used a woman to gain his wealth. He is very good at using women, just look at Palin and she don't even know she is being used. McCain made her look like a complete fool to most of the world.

I don't give a rats butt what YOU are sure of. What the hell makes you think you know the truth. Talk shows are made to make money and they do nothing but manufacture lies to get naive people to watch their garbage, guess what it works.

To Anonymous, I did read what Waren said, my point is that it will never matter because this government lets the illegals have and do whatever they want. When are you all going to learn that your government sold you out to Mexico a long time ago. You raise hell about supporting liberals with your tax but you sit on your behind and do nothing about the illegals you support. Oh my I forgot the illegals are you rich boys slaves, you are not about to do anything about them taking over America. You have some nerve thinking the liberals can fix what Bush let happen. I know it never all happened in the last eight years "BUT" a hell of a lot of it did." Hey Waren the illegals will get what they want one way or the other, drivers license or not "THAT IS A FACT"

OK, here's my suggestion. Let's just split the country up into Red Zones and Blue Zones. Everybody gets to vote what what they want there state to be, Red or Blue. After the election all liberals in red states have to move to blue and all conservatives in blue states move to red. Moderates can stay where ever they want. Then we wouldn't have to yell and scream at each other on comment blogs.

To Waren, You sure wast a lot of your time typing your bald face lies, they get more ridiculous every day. You know as well as I do, it does not take a drivers licenses for illegal aliens to be driving in this country, they come here and do as they please thanks to Bush. Stop whining about every thing Bush should have fixed in the past eight years. Just what the hell did Bush do besides let our country go to hell in a hand basket?

Blog, There is not a doubt in my mind that the truly needy are being left out. I have worked in the communities & seen things with my own eyes. Older people, many that have worked all of their lives, are eating dog food & going without meds because they can't make it on soc.sec. The bible speaks about alms for the poor, & taking care of widows & orphans. Yet when sin became rampant, God rained fire down on Sodom & Gommorah, & destroyed it. We have taken God out of schools, courtrooms, etc. With sin out of control in this country, what will our fate be? This could be a preview of things to come.

In the closing weeks of this election, Obama is trying to remake himself as a moderate to win over lower-income, white, Democratic and independent voters. He wants to hide the facts about his record. He is the most extreme liberal ever to be nominated by a major party. We all know his 100 percent liberal rating in Congress, his support for the TOTAL gun ban in Washington, D.C., his opposition to protecting babies born alive, and his support for tax increases. But there is one issue almost all Americans agree on: Illegal aliens should not be given drivers licenses. Help Expose Obama's License Plan: Not after 9/11. Did you know that Mohamed Atta, the 9/11 ring leader, had a valid Florida drivers license? Did you know 13 of the 19 hijackers had obtained valid drivers licenses? Armed with these licenses, eight of the hijackers even registered to vote! Here is the shocking fact: Obama strongly supports giving illegal aliens in America drivers licenses.

To Hope: I understand your complaint; however, I feel that the truly needed are being betrayed because of the actions of those who wish to take advantage of the system. Someone must advocate for the less fortunate. It is the Christian thing to do, right? I think sometimes we are too quick to judge who is needy and who is not.

Four years ago today, Obama was representing the 13th district in the Illinois state senate. He was also representing ACORN. "Obama thinks 143 days is enough experience to run a country. He also thinks Reverend Wright is inspiring." "Where was Obama when the Iraq war started? He was in the 13th district drinking coffee with the reformed Ayers." "Obama is a quitter. He quit his racist church. He quit the socialist party. And now he wants to quit in Iraq."

Blog, I believe Repub's are concerned for America's truly needy. Yet for every program out there designed to help them, you have a certain demographic viewing it as an opportunity to get something for nothing. If people wouldn't abuse the systems in place there would be more aide for America's most needy. Even now with the economy in turmoil there are young women making babies (no doubt right this very minute) in order to get what they see as the associated perks. Some of those perks being free housing, free medical, free money. Democrats seem to favor these people & cater to their vote. Repub's appear to view it as the festering problem that it is.

Citizen: a few corrections to your post: Michelle said for the first time in her adult life... Biden was calling Obama unqualified because he was in support of another candidate; that goes back to how you opened your post with people who has common sense... Obama says the word God quite frequently, so I don't know if we have to worry about voting for an atheist. Also, there are atheists or people of different religions in this diverse country who may not agree with you or me. Lastly, Barack Obama says the Pledge of Allegiance often, since the US Senate starts every session with the Pledge. There is a YouTube video showing Obama leading the Senate in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance (with his hand to his heart):www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIyBwkuqF4E I hope that this helps to eradicate the rumors.

Posted by: Brad Location: Greenville on Oct 11, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Little woman, If you're saying that you agree obama should not help his brother because he does not help himself; then how can you support obama, who wants to create and continue programs that supports this same type of individual action, or lack of, here in America?

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Oct 11, 2008 at 11:01 AM
"???", while your question may be legitimate, it is absurd at the same time. The President of the United States has many pressing issues to deal with. Crime is high on that list, but that should be left to the special agency called the United States Department of Justice, not the Executive Branch of government. Also, while your question is good, I'm sure it was previously raised by someone else, and research has likely already been done regarding the phenomenon. In response to what Obama would do, he probably would encourage the D.O.J. to continue or elevate its efforts in solving the crime problems as other Presidents have done. Other Presidents have had to face the same issues, correct? In conclusion, the division of powers makes the government more efficient than it would be without that built-in mechanism. While the government may not be the most effective, it's more effective than it would be if one branch of government was charged with handling every facet of citizenry life.

Hi Little Woman Oct 11,2008 at 10:04 AM I am very poor, and have very little money. I know that is my fault. I wish I got more education. With little money I have I will always help out my children if they need money. I give to my church. I give to my children. I give to charities. Barack should help out his own African Brother George Obama its the Christian thing to do. You can not take your money to heaven. Praise the Lord.

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Oct 11, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Hi Albert. Thanks for the question. First off, let me clarify that I don't believe in gambling. However, in the hypothetical situation that I won $100,000 and had an impoverished brother, I would hire him to do a job and see if he could help himself. After seeing his desire to come out of poverty as exemplified by his exerted effort, I would give him further assistance. Also, in this day and time, it would take a lot more than $100,000 to pull someone out of poverty, so I would have to be well-off myself as well. So I would be all for helping my brother, but the initiative must reside with him. If you allow someone to just live off of you, when you're no longer around, they are going to be in bad shape. It's tough love, but it's real love. I hope that answers your question.

Posted by: Little Woman on Oct 11, 2008 at 10:04 AM
To Albert, Why do you think he should help his African Brother George Obama? Do you know if Obama's brother ever did anything to help him self? You see I have money, my siblings does not have much money and I don't help them financially. I worked all my life and they never, need I say more. Being in African is no excuse for being poor and staying in African is no excuse for being poor.

In fact, he says that the magazine article was very exaggerated. I am sure, compared to his fellow Africans, he is living well. George does not seem to value handouts. He seems to be a guy who values hard work. So kudos to him. However, I pity his naive view that you are supposed to get whatever you want in life. Republicans, maybe if you advocated more for the disadvantaged and poor in America, you would get more votes. I'm all for helping others, but let's help our fellow Americans first. Every poor soul out there is not just a begging heap of crap. Some of them just do not have as many opportunities as others of us. We should be compassionate to these people. Yes, it's America, and opportunities for a better life are greater than ever, but unfortunately, those opportunities are still not a reality to all people. I recognize that I am blessed to have been afforded the opportunities of the more fortunate population of Americans, and I also recognize that everyone deserves a chance. Everyone deserves a suitable standard of living in America as they deserve one all around the world. However, let's start at home first.

I want to know how will Obama handle this situation? Or will anyone even have the guts to investigate it.Or are they too afraid of what Jesse and Al will think? This should not offend anyone, it is a legitimate question.

People who has common sense knows that anything and everything about the people on both tickets will be said because that is all part of politics. With that being said I suggest that everyone stop and look at what everyone on both tickets has done while holding office and use that to decide who to vote for. I can tell you that I personally will not vote for a man who will not say the word God and will not say the pledge of allegiance to the United States flag and whose running mate had already said that Obama was not qualified for the position of President and whose own wife said on National tv that for the first time she was proud of her country. Why doesn't Obama trust the Democratic voters? In light of his long and close association with ACORN and their massive campaign to get him elected at all costs one has to wonder why he hasn't come out and called for a full investigation into their undertakings to circumvent the Constitution. Could it be because he doesn't trust his loyal following of Democratic voters to actually vote for him?

On Nov 5th I am going to send him a self addressed envelope with a new stamp. Liberals seem to have a large appetite for propaganda and don't seem to be able to filter the truth from the lies. Perhaps it's easier to just make up their minds to take a side, and then re-iterate the talking points. The fact is that the Sub Prime crisis was in large part caused by liberal programs, pushed through by the democrats, that forced lending Companies and banks to give loans to people that could not possibly pay them back. Send Barack your check return envelope include a stamp so he won't use our tax money to send them out. Thank You

SAVE BARACKS BROTHER - George Obama, Barach Obama's brother lives in a hut in a ramshackle town of Huruma on the outskirts of Nairobi in Kenya. He is 26 and lives on $12 a year. That is 3 cents a day. His own flesh and blood has turned his back on him so it is up to us, the good people of America, to help this man out. We would also like to point out what a difference a country makes. One of the Obamas was born in America and lives in a million dollar house has made over $20 million in the last three years. George Obama was born in Africa, lives in hut and makes only 1 dollar a month. He needs a hand up and with your help we are going to give it to him. Barack has not helped his brother out of poverty. Pray For George.
