Domestic Violence Center Could Shut Down

Domestic violence advocates say an invaluable resource for Pitt County may be forced to close its doors if it doesn't get necessary funding. The Family Center of Pitt County supervises visits and exchanges of children for families facing domestic violence. The center's director says since the facility opened its door in 2002, nearly 1,200 visitations and exchanges have taken place there.

Next month, the center will lose $122,000 in state funds the director says is crucial in keeping the center up and running. The center is no longer eligible to receive the funds, which are for start-up organizations. Representatives with the program say they plan to appeal to Pitt County Commissioners for the funding they will lose from the state.
