Folks Digging Aurora Fossil Festival

Some folks took a trip back in time Saturday.... way back to when fossils were formed at the location of the worlds largest phosphate mine right here in Beaufort County.

The 13th Annual Aurora Fossil Festival is underway off Highway 33 East in Beaufort County. The celebration started with a parade through the city with fanfare from local non-profits and area businesses. Curious diggers got to sift through a fossil pile and get their hands dirty by touching the remains of ancient sharks, whales, bony fish, corals, shells and other creatures. Along with the fossil piles, there were also rides, food, fun, and fellowship.

The Aurora Fossil Museum is also open to the public year round. Large groups can call for appointments, while families can just walk in. To find out more about what the museum has to offer you can log onto http://www.aurorafossilmuseum.com.
