One area that typically floods in Beaufort County is Belhaven and tropical Hanna was no exception.

Storms often push the Pungo River over its banks and into the town which Hanna did again. The good news is that it was mostly just streets that were flooded.

Belhaven is undergoing the largest housing elevation project in the country involving nearly 400 homes.

It was good to see that the Mayor and Town Manager were on the alert. The Town Manager spent the night in his office, to take calls. The police patrolled frequently. The Mayor made a public address on the local tv station. If it had been a worse case scenario storm, they were ready. Way to go, guys.

I live a few miles South at Schrams Beach. We had some flooding, but it was all gone by this afternoon. Lots of limbs down and we lost power for a few hours but no major problems here. I hope there was not major damage in Belhaven or elsewhere. Thank the Lord that Ike looks like it's going to miss us, but pray for those in it's path.
