A drivers education teacher is in jail after deputies say he sexually assaulted a student in the drivers ed car.

Carteret County deputies say it happened Wednesday at Croatan High School.

James Buck of Swansboro is charged with sexual battery and is in jail on a $3,000 bond. Deputies say the assault happened when he was instructing two students how to drive.

Buck was employed by the North Carolina Driving School Corporation, which is contracted by the school system to teach drivers ed at Croatan High.

Buck has an October 6th court date and has been ordered not to return to any Carteret County school until the case is heard in court.

Just what exactly is this girl saying happened? I can't get the full story. I just know Mr. Buck wouldn't do such a thing. It is terrible because this probaly messed the rest of his life up.

We the public should contact our representatives and ask that legislation be introduced to assure that if a false accusation is proven as such, the accuser would then be charged with a misdemeanor crime. Not necessarily here, but quite often false accusations damage the accused for life only to find out later, the individual accused is innocent. The damage has then been done and the accuser walks free. Legal fees for defense against false accusations can be financially crippling.

Well I've heard all three sides of the story and I know what actually happened. So whatever, he didn't do it.

no one is tring to ruin anyones life, but iknow for a fact that he acted and talked in a sexually manner with kids.when his job was drivers ed not sex ed and thats whats the truth

You see, the accused do not get to defend themselves during this time. They are sitting in jail waiting to get bail. This same thing happened to one of my family members. A man with no criminal history, great job, great guy. ppl ripped him to shreds on this board. His reputation was ruined and he lost his job. The media should at least share the accusers side of the story. I hope they can sleep at night b/c all of the lives ruined.

mr.buck has done nothing but help us kids learn not just how to drive but on other aspects of life and i am 10000000000000% positive this man wouldnt do nethig to harm a girl or make her fel uncomfortable. mr buck watches what he does and wouldnt do things like this and i agree with other ppl witn is effing stupid for jsut telling the bad you dont know anything about this man and how all he cares for is helping his students anyway he can. this is a bunch of b.s hope witn and the other ppl that think this is true have a great time putting a guy that everybody loves and cares for and would do anything for in jail. way to ruin a bunch of kids lives that really need mr.buck to be there for them.

AMEN! I know one family that has already been ruined and careers ruined due to WITN coverage

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 6, 2008 at 02:36 AM
I know it’s a girl because I graduated last year and still have quite a few friends at croatan and they all know who the girl is. This probably won't even post if I say her name so I won't but every single person at croatan that I have talked to doesn't believe this is true and knows that this is only for attention. I also agree that WITN needs to report the whole story and not just the story that sounds the best. Instead of just telling the bad why not do another report on all the good this man has done. I guarantee you that story would be alot longer and more interesting then this one. Report the whole story next time witn because this one is just B.S. and is just ruining a good mans name and possibly his career.

Mr.buck is the nicest teacher i've ever had. and im pretty sure that he would not do something like this. but whoever this girl is... karma is going to get her back.

This is BS. Mr. Buck would never do anything like this. He is the nicest teacher at Croatan. The trick who caused all this can go to hell.

This story should have never been reported. It is completely void of information, all that has been done here is to smear this man's reputation. I don't know him, but there is no mention of an accuser, but you have plastered his picture on the internet. Toni, how do you know it was a girl? They haven't even mentioned the sex of the ALLEGED victim. This kid is probably pissed off at him for something and chose this way to get even with him. Maybe he is guilty, but this story should not have come out with this little bit of information. We see this time and time again. Look back at that Plymouth Police Officer that just got out of prison for something that never happened. You couldn't pay me enough money to deal with kids these days. If he is exonerated in the end, people will always look at him and wonder. These cases should be handled a little more carefully. Quite often it's true, but just as often it's B.S.

Someone just wants attention. No way would I ever believe this man did this. He is such a nice guy and a family loving person.

Posted by: Toni Location: Newport on Sep 5, 2008 at 09:16 PM
Yes, this is not like him at all. I had him as a drivers ed teacher I know that we would never do this. Sounds to me this girl just wants attention, and this isn't the right way to get it. He is innocent.

Posted by: anonymous on Sep 5, 2008 at 09:14 PM
The media is good for not telling the whole story, and ruining lives of innocent people. I pray for he and his family. I do not know him, but I refuse to judge people before the WHOLE story is told.

Posted by: Nick Location: Newport on Sep 5, 2008 at 06:46 PM
I agree, I had him as a substitute as well as a driving teacher and he is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. This does not sound like something he would do. I don't think this is the whole story.

Posted by: Tia Location: Newport on Sep 5, 2008 at 06:27 PM
I can personally say that Mr. Buck would never do that. He has been a teacher for a long time and he would not do this.
