Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton answered skeptics Tuesday night by issuing a ringing call for her supporters to rally behind Sen. Barack Obama, saying Democrats cannot afford to stay home in November and let another Republican administration ruin the economy.

“Barack Obama is my candidate,” Clinton said in the final speech of the second night of the convention that will nominate Obama for president.

“No way, no how, no McCain,” she declared in a speech that both blasted the presumed Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, and put forth Obama, her colleague from Illinois, as the man “who must be our president.”

Much of the speculation leading into the Democratic National Convention had centered on how firmly Clinton, the junior senator from New York, would go to bat for Obama, who narrowly edged her for the Democratic nomination in an extraordinarily contentious primary season.

Fire marshals closed the convention floor, which was packed to capacity with Clinton supporters who cheered long and loudly for their candidate. Clinton reserved special gratitude for them and the 18 million other voters who backed her in her primary campaign against Obama.

“To my supporters, my champions — my sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits — from the bottom of my heart: Thank you. Thank you,” she said. “You never gave in. You never gave up. And together we made history.”

But she told those supporters that it was time to take all of their energy and enthusiasm and channel it into electing Obama.

“My friends, it is time to take back the country we love,” she said. “Whether you voted for me or voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose.

“We are on the same team, and none of us can sit on the sidelines,” she added. “This is a fight for the future. And it’s a fight we must win.”

The McCain campaign responded immediately, saying in a statement that “nowhere tonight did [Clinton] say that Barack Obama is ready to lead. Millions of Hillary Clinton supporters and millions of Americans remain concerned about whether Barack Obama is ready to be president.”

I guess when you don't have anything on a canidate like McCain, you fabricate one! Welcome to DNC trademarks. McCain is too old, more Bush policies...if this is all you have on the guy, wow, McCain must be really great.

Please tell me why Obama changed the American flag on his jet? Is he planning on "CHANGE"-ing that too if elected? tell me what else he is planning on changing?

I wouldn't vote for any of these corporate sell-outs.

TO JOHN 8/27 9:56 If we went back in time to 1966. The United States Democrate PRES. Johnson did not care about your opinion. You got DRAFTED into to The ARMY OR THE MARINES CORP, and you will go to Viet Nam.

Please excuse my cynicism, but I am of the opinion that our two parties are parties of special interests. The Republicans promote corporate welfare and the democrats promote socialist class warfare. Either way, it is a program designed to encourage division, not heal and bind a nation together. The only two presidents since 1960 to show the middle class any respect and honor for their hard work and honesty was Ronald Reagan and YES, George W. Bush. I have never seen such vitriol as that which has been heaped upon "Dubya" by such a cadre of narcissistic leftists whose only desire is to see a socialist system imposed on our country. The most hilarious thing that I can ever recall was watching those dimwits in Florida holding up ballots to look for "hanging" chads. May God grant us a leadership that honors truth and morality.

It seems that the democrats sort of said the same thing to Hillary that she said about Mccain.

??? just what are you qualified for using the word aint? I've never seen people so afraid in my life. You act as if Obama is hiding under you bed's with chainsaws. If your so sure McCain is going to win why do you keep protesting it? To convince the Obama supporters or yourself?

Posted by: John Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 10:09 PM
To??? How do you know that, do know Obama or have you ever talked to him? You telling US to listen to Rush Limbaugh is a good reason not to listen to you.My God do you hear yourself?????

To SGT. REMINGTON We don't except a war we don't believe in, WE have that right. To except it when we think it is wrong then we may as well be Iraqi. If you believe in what you are doing then that is good. I see people talking out of both sides of their face on this site so I do what is right for me and let them do the same.

Posted by: ??? Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 09:27 PM
To anonymous, I would definitely vote for Obama if I was picking a new garbageman, but he just aint qualified for what he is seeking.

TO ANONYMOUS 8/27 06:15PM. In the US Army in Iraq we fly the American Flag. Not a flag with President Bush on it. This is not Bushes War this is American"s War have some respect for us. We are here to help these people, and we are doing a good job of it. Pray for us.

Go Horace! Let's add Warren Buffet to the list of who would like to pay 75%. The truth is any of these people could pay more if they wanted to just do it no loopholes. I would love to tell you that the money would go to the people like police, teachers etc however once the politicians get a hold of it the real heroes of america will never see it. It will go into the black hole of government just like the money from the Education Lottery! What a laugh! As for all the people here who think the middle class and common people will get a pass on higher taxes your dreaming. ...Good luck with that and good luck if Obama gets in!

Posted by: ??? Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 08:59 PM
If you want the real scoop on Obama, just listen to Rush Limbaugh. You know RUSH IS RIGHT!

Posted by: ESTATE ATTORNEY on Aug 27, 2008 at 08:57 PM
To Please Understand. Let me tell you the Very Rich do not pay a lot of Taxes, and never will. They use the Legal Loop Holes in the Tax Laws to prevent that. Like Business Tax Deductions, Trusts, Stock Investing, Overseas Accounts. Ect. They hire people like me to protect their assets. Obama hopes the middle class will believe his tax the rich story it will never happen. My clients will stay very wealthy.

Posted by: HORACE Location: CHOCOWINITY on Aug 27, 2008 at 08:23 PM
I see at the Democratic Convention there were some Actors to help support Obama. In my opinion these people are not in touch with reality. How could they be they deal in fiction and some of these people make 20-100 Million dollars a picture and some of them make 2 or more pictures a year. I only make less then $30,000.00 What do you make? I bet it's not 20 Million a year. Some of these Actors can't even control there own life how could they possibly pick a President for me.I guess the more they are seen on TV the more it helps their career so they can make more money. I am sure their Agent says "Make sure you get on TV at the Democratic Convention it's the thing to do,smile and look happy. It will better your career ". I think allot of them feel quilty making so much money so easily it eases their conscience to give back.I think these celebrity's should give 75% in taxes to the Government so they can feel better.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 27, 2008 at 08:02 PM
To please understand, You are 100% right and every middle class person in this country knows that. "WE WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA 2008" God bless America

Posted by: HEY JACK on Aug 27, 2008 at 07:34 PM
At least McCain knew how many states there are and not "57" like Obama visited. Oh but Obama might have got his countries mixed up. Another thing, any disrespect you have for anyone who has served our country is just down right shameful and pitiful. They have your sorry back if worse comes to worse and no amount of pay will be worth it for them! Someone else's back yeah but from what I read here not yours.

Posted by: please understand Location: greenville on Aug 27, 2008 at 07:28 PM
People please understand this. When there is talk of lowering taxes by the republicans, it is applied to people who make millions of dollars. We the hard working folks are paying all the taxes. When a millionaire's secretary pays more taxes than he does, there's a problem. Obama's plan would lower middle class taxes and increase the taxes of the very very wealthy. Please research this. Please.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 27, 2008 at 07:15 PM
I'm sick of hearing how the Dems want your tax money. Well taxes are going to have to be raised to pay for Bushes WAR.

Go Capitist!! Here's obama's plan ya want change... give the socialist $1.00 and you get 2 cents in change. The dem(on)crats wants your money

To CAPITALIST, I am glad you found your place in life. I learned a long time ago not to talk politics, if you have seen one then you have seen them all. They are made from a cookie cuter lol

Posted by: CAPITILIST Location: CHOCOWINITY on Aug 27, 2008 at 05:17 PM
What we did not hear from Hillary says more than what she did say. She did not say she thought OBAMA was ready to be President. She did not even remotely say she admired him. THE TRUTH IS DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN LEANING MORE TOWARDS SOCIALISM. We are a capitalist society it is what made this country GREAT. You can come here with nothing and be whatever you want as long as your willing to work hard. The Democrats seem to have forgotten this and think government needs to do everything for us. Who is going to pay for all these social programs? " YOU ARE! BY RAISING YOUR TAXES ". If you think you have no $$$$$ now wait till Obama gets done taxing your pay check.Even worse than taxing us taxing business that will do allot for job creation!Windfall profit tax in other words do real well and the government will reward you by taking your earnings and redistributing your money to those who need it!We know how well the government does that!Change...wealth redistribution and socialism!Higher TAXES!

Posted by: jack on Aug 27, 2008 at 04:53 PM
To ???, You are 100% right and it is funny, you know why that is? That is because they want to keep their foot in the door for the next time around. McCain would do the same thing if he was not so D**N OLD, He will be lucky to still be alive four years from now and if he is he will not know if the Whitehouse is one of his property's or not. Remember he don't know how many property's he owns LMAO FOUR MORE MONTHS, FOUR MORE MONTHS, FOUR MORE MONTHS.

Just one lying politician backing another lying politician.Politians are almost comical, the way that the other fellow is always wrong for the job as long they are in the race. Then soon as they drop out, then the same one they badmouthed is all of sudden a fine candidate.

Posted by: jack Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 03:43 PM
It sounds like Obama Snake Oil and Airborne Ranger are one of the same or they read the McCain handbook. It is nice you can pat yourself on the back for doing your job, yes I said your job that is what being in the military is, just a job that you get payed for.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Aug 27, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Well, I come with the facts based on history of the truth and denial exists once again. Sorry, you are in a red state that will not carry Obama. Its not what I think at all, its the facts. Whether McCain becomes president or not is up to the rest of the country, not NC. Stop playing yellow dog democrat at a time when you need to read and research issues. Truth maters.

Posted by: Airborne Ranger Location: Winterville on Aug 27, 2008 at 02:33 PM
Trucker: That's what makes this country great. My Grandfather, Father and Me all fought to keep our freedom of speach and other liberties that most take for granted. Vote for whom you please. I am not trying to dissuade you. I don't need you to worry about me. I learned a long time ago how to take care of myself and my family through trying times. I do however resent YOU thinking someone is dumb because they don't believe the rhetoric that is flowing from the democrats' mouths. Do some research and don't just spout off about things because someone else said it was so. Be informed.

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 01:49 PM
Obama Snake Oil and Airborne Ranger, YOU can believe what ever you want to believe it is beneath me to worrying about what you think. I do resent you thinking I am going to believe you....... THAT'S ALL FOLKS

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Aug 27, 2008 at 01:03 PM
Still whining about Bush's election after a legitimate election. Denial is a terrible thing. Go Airborne Ranger, you are right. Ever since the Democrats took over the house and senate, the economy has slid. The democrats were the ones that imposed the oil drilling ban without any plans for the future. Don't believe that, do some reseach. Carter signed it in from a dem controlled H and S. Rangers are not dumb, just because you live in denial about reality, don't take it out on someone speaking the truth. The economy was going great until dems took over, research it. Now you want an inexperienced leader that has questionable character as a president? Why you want a paycut and to pay more for groceries and gas eludes me.

Posted by: We're All In This Together Location: Greenville on Aug 27, 2008 at 01:00 PM
I would just like ask everyone to research what both candidates' policies are and what they have voted on. You simply can't go on what you hear...that is taking gossip and turning it in to fact. Research and actually learn what is true and judge from that. The important thing is that as long as we have two parties fighting and not working together, we will not succeed in moving forward and building this country back to the great nation it truly is! We are cutting off our noses to spite our faces by believing the same tired arguements on both sides. Republicans: If we vote for a Democrat the only taxes that will be raised are those people who make millions of dollars. Don't you see the middle class is who is paying for everything? Democrats: By voting Republican doesn't mean the environment will be totally wrecked and everyone will be carrying guns around in the grocery store. Do you see? I think I will vote for a Democrat this time to see what they will offer the next four years

Posted by: Rob Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Vote Nader!

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 09:54 AM
To Airborne Ranger, Come on Airborne don't make your self look dumb by saying, before the democrats took control everything was running smoothly, nothing has run smoothly in eight I repeat eight very long years. WE HAVE A RIGHT TO A RECOUNT WHEN WE ARE NOT BEING TOLD THE TRUTH.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Aug 27, 2008 at 08:59 AM
Of course you dems will demand recounts. That is what you always do when your candidate doesn't win.

Posted by: Airborne Ranger Location: Winterville on Aug 27, 2008 at 08:52 AM
The President of the US can't do a whole lot without the backing of Congress. Who controls the Congress? THE DEMOCRATS. Before the democrats took control everything was running smoothly. Now look at it. The economy is on the slide. Neither candidate is top of the line, but we sure as he!! don't need more taxes on top of what we already have, nor a socialist form of government that obama is a fan of.

Posted by: XXX Location: Greenville on Aug 27, 2008 at 08:12 AM
obama, clinton, & supporters are all TOO blind to see the truth. You people really think hillary means all that crap she says. You really think obama can do a fraction of what he claims. With mccain you're in a boat with a small hole in the bottom. With obama, you're in a boat with no bottom.

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Aug 27, 2008 at 06:58 AM
Nowhere last night did [Clinton] say that Barack Obama was NOT ready to lead this GREAT country. Millions of Hillary Clinton supporters and millions of Americans WILL STAND BEHIND Obama all the way to the Whitehouse. WE WILL FIGHT with everything WE have YOU can count on that "McBush GULLIBLE'S". This time around WE will demand recounts unlike the last two times around. We want the TRUTH in 2008.

Posted by: vote obama on Aug 27, 2008 at 02:51 AM
