The motorsports industry is a six billion dollar a year industry in North Carolina and that's why Governor Mike Easley has declared the month of May, as Motorsports Month.
There are more than 1,000 motorsports-related businesses across the state, which provide more than 27,000 direct and indirect jobs.
In March, Charlotte was chosen as the site of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This facility will contribute about $62 million to the area’s economy. More than 400,000 people are expected to visit the Hall of Fame each year.
Eighty-two percent of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race teams, 72 percent of the NASCAR Busch Series race teams and 55 percent of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race teams are headquartered in North Carolina.
