Gas Prices Hit City Budgets

Cities all across Eastern Carolina are feeling the impact of the soaring gas prices. Kinston city manager Ralph Clark says the city has a fleet of nearly 300 vehicles which require gassing up each day. Clark says the cost of filling up those vehicles is hitting the city's budget hard. Now, city officials, just like most people, are looking at other fueling options to save money. One thing Kinston is doing is cutting down on the number of days it picks up recycling. Clark says the current budget has been impacted to the tune of about $90,000. The city is now beginning to look at how the cost of gas will affect the budget being planned for next year.
