No Charter School in Pitt County Next School Year

There will be no charter school next year in Pitt County. The North Carolina Charter School Advisory Committee rejected the application submitted by a group of parents for Keystone Academy Charter School. Officials say 17 applications were examined, but that only nine went on for further review. Michael Dixon with the Pitt County Board of Education says the schools are judged on several things, such as governance of the proposed charter school, how its going to be administrated, how well it complies with the standard course of study with the state of North Carolina, its fiscal proposals and prospects and its facilities. We spoke with leaders from the proposed Keystone Academy. They said they haven't met yet about the recent rejection. However say they may re-apply next year.
