The official Barack Obama for President campaign headquarters opened it's doors, Tuesday evening.

The headquarters, located in Downtown Greenville, hosted city leaders and campaign volunteers. The headquarters will serve as ground zero for Eastern North Carolina, campaign recruitment, canvassing and planning. We spoke with city council member Rose Glover, who told us why it was so important for the headquarters to be located in Greenville.

The new office will oversee 12 counties in the area: Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Greene, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Pamlico, Pitt, Wayne and Wilson Counties. The McCain camp has yet to announce if and where it plans to open an Eastern Carolina office.

We do not need a president that doesnt acknowledge the america flag. If he becomes president is he going to try to change it to? he just wants to be in power, he doesnt love this country and want to improve it. He wants to change America to something he wants it to be, not what it needs to be.

To Imapiratearghhh; Saddam Hussein was not Hitler? Are you kidding me? You need to get your head out of the sand. I am not going to recap all of his heinous actions and thousands of his own citizens that he murdered. As far as our involvement being needed? It absolutely was. To keep this is as simple as I can for you, lets use this example: A Huge bully has you down and is pounding you relentlessly. Another even larger man is walking by. What would you want to happen? A. He walks on as if nothing is happening? or B. He jumps in and pounds him into oblivion and saves your helpless self? I assume you would choose B. Well the helpless citizens of Iraq also chose B. Saddam has been pounded into oblivion. I am sure that the majority of the Iraqi citizens that are ever so close to living in peace are glad we jumped in. Regardless of the many reasons that may have motivated us initially, it is a good thing for them and the rest of the world we did. God Bless America!

I dont know if anybody has stopped to look around, but this country has already started its decline. Each party steps on the Bill of Rights everyday. BTW, there are other people to vote for. 3rd party? Republicans havent been around forever you know.

Posted by: Totally Awesome on Aug 5, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Nothing wrong with being athiest or gay. Many gays support the Republican party. Many athiests are conservatives. I do know who runs this country, I have a degree in History and teach Civics. I tend to look at things from all sides. The Republicans are just as corrupt and misguided as the Democrats. Think about it though, if Bush and Congress hadn't messed things up so bad, then you would have anything to worry about in this election. You do realize this right? The reason why the democrats are able to capitalize on this is because he made it easy for them. Just think if Gore would have won, then you probably could get a Republican in this go around!

I am so sorry I wasted your time by posting on your blog.I posted on sunday and I see it has not been put up yet. After reading all the remarks I see most of them are by only a few people. There was nothing in my post that was rude, obnoxious or vulgar.Perhaps you should let the people know before they waste your time also that this is for only a few people.

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." — Barack Obama ... What leads me to believe that Obama wants to turn this into a socialist country are his writings, his speeches, his associations, and his stated goals. From what I've read here, the only posters who are towing a party line are those who support Obama. I certainly do not agree with or vote lock step with the Republicans on every issue. However, in an election where you really only have two viable options, the Republican candidate is the only responsible choice given the alternative. Regardless of which candidate a moderate voter supports, there is the danger of being associated with the fringe of either side. The difference here is that the Democrat candidate epitomizes the fringe. It's no accident that in the last couple of months he has "revised" practically every position. A moderate country doesn't elect extremist liberals to the Presidency.

If we flunk our national intelligence test on November 4,that may be the end of our experiment with a Constitutional Republic, a revolutionary form of government that derives its authority from the consent of the governed. Regardless of the outcome, we will NOT be able to say we weren't warned and CERTAINLY will not be in a position to blame NOBAMA for OUR failure to take our sovereign duties as citizens seriously. If an electorial majority determined by voters decides to swallow toxic snake oil, we can hardly blame the snake oil peddler.

Totally Awe, most of us vote where our tax money goes and who wants more. Socialism is something that sneaks up on countries in the form of helping those that cannot help themselves. However, most can help themselves to your money when it is all said and done. I suggest you find out who runs ie ruins the country, the house and senate. Obama is a socialist and a liberal. Research it. He wants redistribution of wealth. This is socialism. If you have a democrat controlled house and senate president..look out, there will be new social programs and laws placed that will spin your head around. Remember the party of atheist, gays, high taxes, no oil drilling and envioronmentalist, the democrat left.

You guys trip me out. Just how is Obama is going to turn this nation into a Socialist one? You do realize this is a huge feat. President Bush has pushed some big government reforms hasn't he? Patriot Act, NCLB, North American Union, etc. So you support a President who is supposed to be conservative who referred to the Constitution "as just a piece of paper" and now you support a moderate republican? I think you are voting for him because he is a republican and not based on his policies. You do realize the Republican party is slowly moving towards big government right? Why not contradict yourselves and vote libertarian or write in vote? BTW: I do not support Obama. I am just pointing out some things.

Posted by: Imapiratearghhh on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:59 AM
VBush, I am not blind, I just pointed out this is how Bush will be remembered. The writing is on the wall. Funny how WWII was a little more validated hmmm. The Iraq War is surrounded by lies. Also it isn't my high body count. I never killed those soldiers. I never sent them to fight in a very unpopular war. Heck I am not even blaming high gas prices on Bush. Just like it was Hoover's fault the depression happened. But it happened during his administration, so that is how history remembers him. I don't care for Bush and have lost complete faith in the democrats. It is all capital hill games and the American people who take "sides" are the pawns. BTW: True compared to previous wars, the body county isnt as high probably cause medicine and technology has survived. The problem is the IRAQ WAR was unneccesary unlike WWII. Hussein was no Hitler and no threat to us.

To Ron; Bravo! ABSOLUTELY!

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:05 AM
To Red State and Ron...I am a registered independent with conservative views. I am for McCain, because he will take no crap from those "thumb sucking","chest pounding" weenies(congress) who are into the feeeeeeeel good approach to problem solving. If a person tells it like it is, and won't back down from a viewpoint that makes sense, will get my vote everytime. Partisonship needs to stop, solutions need to forthcoming, and honesty should be expected.

Posted by: Red State Location: Washington Co. on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Ron , sorry, that last part was for Buddha who posted further down. You were very clear in your post how you feel about Obama. As for debating McCain, I agree with you. Earlier in the campaign, McCain asked Obama to travel around the country together, go to town hall meetings and just talk to the American people. They could both make a short speech and just let the audience ask them questions that they could then answer and put forth their opinions. Of course, Obama would not agree to that. They all know that, under scrutiny, their arguments fall apart. Even my 12 yr. old listens to them and says, "Mom, that just doesn't make sense." LOL She was disgusted last year when her science teacher tried to indoctrinate her classmates with Al Gore's fairy tale, An Inconvenient Truth. I really wanted to go to the school and make them present the other side of the debate, but being so close to the end of the school year I decided to let it slide this time and just discussed it with her.

Posted by: Ron Location: Merritt on Aug 5, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Red State- Sorry if I somehow gave the impression that I am an Obama supporter. I have NEVER been taken in by his phony rhetoric or his slick delivery. I am a total Conservative Republican. The only Democrat that I have ever voted for is Danny Miller, who was the Pamlico County Sheriff. I only voted for Danny because I worked with him, he was a friend, and I knew him to be totally honest. Obama sounds good when he is reading from a tele-prompter, but he cannot put three words together without stuttering and pausing and "er"ing and "uh"ing when he is not in front of the tele-prompter. That's probably why he doesn't want to debate John McCain. He knows he would come off as the bumbling idiot he is. To answer your question--I have never agreed with Obama. He is and always has been a Socialist and a traitor to our great country.

Posted by: Red State on Aug 5, 2008 at 09:32 AM
Ron - thank you for the compliment, but I just feel its too important not to pay attention. BUDDHA - I have to ask, once you get beyond the feeling that an Obama speech gives you, which of his positions do you really believe in? Is it the redistribution of wealth, the welfare state, the nanny state, the frighteningly naive foreign policy, the theory that we are "killing" our planet with our cars (has to be cars because no one is talking about hybrid tractors and manufacturing plants),or do you just want to pay more taxes? I'm not being confrontational, I'm just really curioius how thinking people trust him? I'll admit when I heard his speech at the Dem convention in 2004, I was impressed and inspired. It sounded wonderful with all the hope and belief in what America could be. I applauded him. Then, he started talking about policy issues and I listened to his words and not just his tone. I guess my question is did you agree with him then or do you agree with him now? It can't be both.

To NOBama...I do remember the Carter years and could not afford gas or a home. Massive changes need to be made to Medicare, Medicaid and other discretionary spending programs for this country to get on the right track. CONGRESS needs to be held to account. Our growing national debt neeeds to be cut, and the "free rides" need to stop. I have yet to look in the help wanted ads and it shows "No Jobs Available". People need to look in the mirror everyday, and do something that will better themselves and their family. Families need to take care of families! To Ron..Merritt. Thanks for the complement. With age comes knowledge and reason.

To Devil Dog and Red State, You two make me proud. If everyone were as intelligent, articulate and knowledgable as you are; our wonderful country would not be facing the possibility of Obama as president. Not to mention the fact that we would have a much better candidate on our side that McCain. Devil Dog, I consider myself to be fairly astute on political issues, but it never occurred to me that Pelosi's shenanagens were to cover for Obama's vote on drilling. Bravo!! Maybe the rabble will wise up to the Democrats over the latest fiasco.

I am one to say I am not scared of Obama. I think he is a dreamer and one who is not very realistic. One thing I can tell you. If he gets in office we can kiss life as we know it good bye! First Taxes and gas will be like Peanut man cater and then Isreal will be left to the Islamic wolves and when we leave isreal to defend herself we will see the true end of time come. But One thing is these people have been fighting for thousands of years. We need to worry about our own people and feed the kids at home in our own back yards who are starving and quit giving money to the people who hate us and support Isreal as much as we can. Furthermore we have enough oil and gas to rid the Middle east countries oil for our import. We have shale oil in the mid west and a whole lot of oil and Natural Gas in Alaska. We see who is working for us it is not the democrats their vacation is more important than solving problems that effect US. Where are your wonderful DEMOCRATS NOW?? Maybe at TEDS Drinking

To Red State...Pelosi and Reid were providing cover for NOBAMAFLOP. If a vote were brought to the floor, NOBAMAFLOP would have had to vote yes or no. They didn't want him to take a position. Instead the Dems FLIPPED the light switches and FLOPPED out of town. I'm sure ole Harry Reid is getting an ear full from citizens and hotel owners in Las Vegas, because the high gas prices are causing people to vacation closer to home. Lower gas prices, mean more money in the pockets of consumers, who will spend...spend..spend.

Posted by: Red State Location: Washington Co. on Aug 4, 2008 at 04:13 PM
DD, I'm praying for Netanyahu in Isreal. Nancy and her "most ethical congress in history" left for vacation, refusing to allow a vote on drilling for a few billion gallons of domestic oil. The bell rang and class was dismissed. Nevermind the nation's business, she has a book to promote. George Stephanopolous asked her ten times in their interview the other day why she won’t allow a vote on offshore drilling and she hems and haws but never gets around to actually answering the question. Why do you think she and Harry Reid refuse to lift the Congressional ban on offshore drilling. The President lifted the Executive ban, which is useless without lifting the Congressional ban, and the price of crude dropped $15. in three days, just at the hint of our being less dependant on foreign oil.

The people her are full of fear I see. The defensive measures are out. I am glad I can make a very informative decision to vote for Obama. I know all of his stances and his policies and they reflect exactly what I believe. It is about time I finally have someone whom I will not feel ashamed to be voting for, as opposed to voting for the lesser of two evils the past two elections...and the lesser of two evils ended up being the work decision ever in the form of Bush.

Not to worry...Israel will be electing another Prime Minister in Sept. He will take action against Iran, and that will be the undoing of NOBAMA. This country has plenty of oil supply now ,but if Israel attacks Iran,we will need our strategic reserve. NOBAMA knows handouts are popular. The taxpayer, to include the middle class, will pay through the nose. Standby for higher interest rates, because that is the only way to strenghted the dollar. Where is Nancy Pelosi????

I heard they were charging $7 per sign. Everybody get a job? How? That is just pur BS to get people's vote. ANd I assure you, there are plenty of people out there that don't want a job, they rather just sit back and draw benefits. Why work when your rich Uncle Sam will give it to you?

Posted by: Red State Location: Washington Co. on Aug 4, 2008 at 01:04 PM
Devil Dog, you're reading my mind. Many people don't understand that large corporations do not pay taxes. They pass them along to consumers. A heavier tax burden on oil companies will mean a higher price at the pump for us. If anything we should lessen the tax burden on them, giving them more money for R&D, and encourage them to find more domestic oil. Obama has today reversed yet another position and is now in favor of tapping our strategic oil reserves to "bring down gas prices". We do not have a shortage of oil in this country. We just don't like what we're paying for it. There is no shortage and we should not be using our reserves. Things are headed toward bad with Iran. UN Sec Council members are adding more sanctions. Iran has often threatened to blockade the Strait of Hormuz which is the busiest oil shipping lane in the mid-east. People please, put the puzzle together.

Let's see..NOBAMA wants a "windfall profit tax". Oil companies already are taxed at 45%, which puts about 45 billion dollars of tax revenue in the hands of the feds. If the government employs another tax expect lost jobs, higher gas prices, less contributions to charities just to name a few. Will NOBAMA then put a "windfall profit tax" on all corporations that make a profit? Sounds like the initial step towards SOCIALISM. I remember Jimmy Carter when interest rates were 12% on home mortgages, gas lines, and a downward trend on funding for our military. I guess the Democrats really believe the government can run individuals and families lives better than we can. NOBAMA is a dangerous man and people need to review his writings and the people he hangs around with. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

I guess it is easy to blame the war on the president even though congress OKd the effort. Then he lied...he didn't lie, he was given info no different than you and I get from our peers. You still hate him since he stole the election..Anyone that votes for this man will be voting for a pay decrease, he will tax you. History shows this and always has. If he goes after big oil, then we will be in gas lines happy to pay $9 a gallon...this is what you will be voting, research the Carter years. McCain isn't the best choice of a republican but Obama is a liberal spitting snake, waiting to take office. Heed this warning and do some reasearch. He will be the flip flop king....

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Aug 4, 2008 at 09:23 AM
To Imapiratearghhh; Speaking of blindness....first of all the President does not control gas prices, and second of all it is the policies of the environmental wack jobs supported primarily by left wing nut jobs that keep us dependent on foreign oil. This was going on a long time before our current President set his sights on the White House. With regards to the war and your "high body count", while any loss of American life is tragic, we have been at war for 7 years.....we lost 19,000 during the Battle of the Bulge in Europe, we lost 26,000 During the Battle of Iwo Jima. That is 45,000 and referencing only two battles from WWII. We have lost approximately 4,200 in 7 years. The odds of survival in this conflict are pretty good. With that said, I too am disgusted with Capitol Hill and the majority of those there. The best answer to our dilemma is to vote out all incumbents regardless of party. That would send the message we need to send.

Posted by: Imapiratearghhh on Aug 4, 2008 at 12:10 AM
GVegas24, your party loyalties blind you. This war we are engaged in is what will define George W. Bush's legacy. People are going to remember high gas prices and a high solider body count. Despite the good he has accomplished, it will always be overshadowed by the war. If you do not realize this, then you are in denial. Not to make it seem like I am biased, I am more disgruntled with the Democrats. We need to fire 90% of all the politicians on Capital Hill and start from stratch. We need politicians who have their constituents (red, blue, independent) in mind. If anybody on this board believes that either candidate has the answers, then you are delusional. Politicians do not answer to the general public, they answer to who has the most money. Wake up.

If Obama will have a job for everyone, I'm all for it. Maybe that way the crime rate will go down. It is nothing to see 4-5 young men walking the streets during hours of school or work. And I'm thinking "Why aren't you in school or have a job?" Too much time on their hands and no money earned leaves them to take what they don't have. Well Obama will take what YOU have and give it to someone else. He'll redistribute your income for you so the ones walking the streets won't have to. And to 'love Obama', it doesn't take nerve to speculate what will happen, although I do have plenty of it. It just takes some common sense. As I age, I discover daily that so many people do not possess much of that. Time will tell if you will still love Obama. Yeah, Yeah he will only tax above 200 grand. For anyone minus govt. funded jobs, we are not working for a man that is poor. Go ahead and tax the highest income, businesses and such and that will trickle down to pay cuts & job losses. Oops I did again.

To Fed up...People learn to be conservative after seeing the results of LBJ's "Great Society" that created welfare, and other social ills. Bill Clinton really showed family values during his tenure. They look at the legal system that offers hope for the criminals and sorrow for the victims. Most lawyers are Democrats, and have turned congress into a laughing stock. Colleges don't allow students to think, unless they are in agreement with the profs. If Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Henry Waxman, Barbara Boxer and the rest of those liberals are using reason, their logic is off center. This country needs to start weening off the freebies to corporations and individuals just like you do drug addicts. If you breed 'em then you need to feed em!!! I was raised to take care of myself and my family. My problems are for me to figure out. They are not the taxpayers responsiblity.

Posted by: High School Educated Location: Morehead City on Aug 3, 2008 at 10:55 AM
To:Fed Up, Conservatives are people who apply reason and rational thought. Emotion does not come into play. The Liberal school of thought comes from the way they (you) think things 'ought to be' as opposed to the way things are and how they actually work. The mortgage industry does not need to be regulated, nor do we (the taxpayers) need to bail them out. They created their own situation by making bad loans to people who could not really afford to purchase what they were buying. The mortgage business is just that....a business. If you open a business and make bad choices is the government going to bail you out? NO! Anything other than a fixed rate mortgage is just smoke and mirrors that allow people to 'qualify' for loans that they shouldn't have to begin with. I say let those companies go out of business and let more responsible companies take their place. The federal government will bail them out...WE (the taxpayers) WILL PAY FOR IT.

Posted by: Fed up on Aug 3, 2008 at 09:17 AM
If colleges are liberal, where do people learn to be conservative? The fact is, HIGHER EDUCATION (you know, high school doesn't count) teaches citizens how to think for themselves and look at the facts. And what does that mean? That using logic and reason are more important than toeing the line (like conservatives do, who never once thought about regulating the mortgage industry because of their die hard belief in laizze-fairre). Who's the sheep now?

To Red State Hottie...Well Said! To : giggidy-giggidy...Perot is the reason Clinton got in the Whitehouse the first time. 3rd party candidates will never win, and only draw votes from which ever party they are the most closely aligned. Example: a Green party candidate will draw votes away from the Democrats, a Liberatarian candidate will draw votes away from the Republicans. The reason for this is that there are two basic schools of thought and everything else is just some sort of variant of the two main parties. Therefore a third party candidate will always lose and only serve to help one of the other candidates win. Had Ross Perot not been an option most of those votes would have gone conservative...if you add those votes to Bush 41's votes, Clinton would not have made it into the Presidency the first time.

To Imapiratearghhh, I would like to say I did make a mistake with that remark, he could be the first decent democrat to win the White House in MY Lifetime. The dems have had some bright spots in their 150 Year History but overall the GOP has done a much better job. As for George W, his long term legacy will be much greater and one of a successful presidency and not one of lies & corruption. Just wait & see 50 years down the road.

Right on Red State Hottie...Voters need to get educated on "Party Platforms", and vote on their beliefs with a platform. Unfortunately, most people vote a certain party because their parents, grandparents etc.vote that way. Todays Democratic Party is not the party of the 60's. Todays Democratic Party is Socialist and anti-military. I have worked for the Federal government for 32 years, and it is far from a smooth running machine. If you think the government can manage anything effectively and efficiently you are sadly mistaken.

Obama supporters, please listen to the words, not just how they're put together. Yes, he's a gifted speaker, but listen to what he is saying! I don't agree with McCain on everything, but Obama is just dangerous. Yes, I said it. He's scary and not because he "looks different than those other Presidents on the dollar bills". Those of you who are thinking of voting for Obama should read Dr. Jerome Corsi's new book, The Obama Nation. It is meticulously documented with over 700 footnotes and took two years to write due the reasearch. If Obama's socialist agenda doesn't scare you, his associations should. No way in heck any Republican candidate would still be in the race with friends such as Obama's. He is getting a pass simply because of the "historical" context of his candidacy. We have to stop being afraid to call nighttime dark and identify this man for what he has proven himself to be. A radical, socialist liberal. Remember, birds of a feather flock together and his friends hate the USA.

hey mccainiac...and you are even having the nerve to speculate what will happen if obama is president...what can be worse than what is going on economically now? if he expects all americans to have jobs...so be it. nothing should be a free ride. I am 51, and have worked my a-- off all of my life from fast food to teaching for 27 years. I will not ever retire unless my health requires me to. I believe in hard work. Bush and Cheney steal from the Americans and the world and yeah, we sure are in great shape. You are all crazy to think another republican will win. tuck your tails in and get used to Obama being the winner in November.

Not one democrat has ever been a good president? really? None. The party has existed for over a 150 years and not one Democrat has been beneficial to our country? Also I think it is really funny when somebody accuses Obama supporters of being "sheep", since the majority of both parties follow their respective candidates like "sheep." People need to stop treating political parties like sport teams. I would say the majority of Americans are sheep, who follow candidates blindly. There is a very thin line that divides our current politicians. The day the majority of America realizes this is the day we will hopefully make a giant leap foward. But will we? No, why? because people have to have somebody to root for, even though they may not what they are rooting for. People who absolutley detest another political party are the same people who love pepsi and hate coke just because, despite them tasting very similiar.

Capital Gains not only affects real estate sales but stocks, mutual funds, bonds, and metals. Indirectly this will hurt retirement plans. I know my 401K invests in the stock market thru mutual funds. The recent instablility of the market is said to be due to the price of oil AND the possiblity of Obama's plan of raising cap gains taxes. Pay attention to the dip in his poll numbers and the correlation to the market. They move opposite of one another often. Keep in mind oil is a factor. The speech from Bush to Drill came just before the gradual decrease in the price of a barrel. It's rather interesting. There are economic advisors that are preparing their clients to be ready to pull their investments if Obama gets elected. That would result in chaos and the little people with retirement plans would hurt. That's just one way Obama will hurt this hateful mean country known as the USA.PARTIAL BIRTH abortion, Obama WASN'T AGAINST IT. Allows a baby to exit most of the birth canal THEN they die

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 2, 2008 at 08:29 PM
Obama just said this week he will TAKE money from the oil companies and GIVE it to others. This is pure socialism. You young people on here need to look up the definition of socialism and then listen carefully to Obama. Remember the USSR (Union of Soviet SOCIALIST republic). This is a capitalist country. How can obama decide that people who are rich are bad and he should just take their money that they earned and give it to someone else. This is borderline Communism.

Devil Dog- I could not agree with you more. Let's just wait and see what happens. This may be the change we are looking for. I'm sorry to sound cynical on some of my comments, but I think it's out of frustration for the last seven years. You hit the nail right on the head.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Aug 2, 2008 at 05:04 PM
To Rob..Most of the people who vote Democrat love SOCIALISM. They have either been indoctrinated, at our LIBERAL colleges, or want the government to think for them. Any bad decision they make, it is the governments responsiblity to bail them out. I hate to say this but maybe we really need tough times, so they can get their heads on straight. The Republican Party has fallen into the same trap with their lack of fiscal responsibility. It's the blind leading the blind in both parties. I'm fed up with all of them.

Brandon your post was a waist of time reading. You insulted everyone on this blog. If you were as SMART as YOU think YOU are, YOU wouldn't have commented on a blog with people whom are as slow as a turtle. I wonder what that makes you? I know something you don't know. The word English should be capitalized. I guess you barely know English also! We may not always agree but don't come here insulting my cyber buddies.

Believe me, if I had a choice i would be voting for Hillary!

Can we change the law and elect George Bush for another 4 Years? I am a hardcore republican and actually have respect for Mr. Obama, I just don't think he is ready to be president yet. Get a full senate term under your belt, show america what you really got and he might actually be the First Democrat that does a good job as president. Until then I'm voting for McCain. Nothing persoanl, just business. As for the local office, they have a right to be here just like McCain staffers and should be respected, as long as they respect the other side.

ppppsssttt......anyone who doesn't know what capital gains taxes are can Google it and find out. So nobody has anything on anyone on the web. If you can type it you can find out what it is, so you don't have to be a home owner for those of you who aren't. And I love to read the post from those of you with these illusions of grandeur like we are really going to rise and be one people. It human nature to hate people that are different. If we were all the same color we would hate the fat ones, or the ones with green eyes, or the ones with red hair. But I do endear the...all men are created equal vibe on this blog. If that was true I would be making Oprah and Bill Gates money or they would be making a teacher's pay. Oh and thanks McCainoron and VBush!t for insulting everyone on the blog for thinking we're stupid!

I must agree with you Lavon. We have become a greedy nation and we don't want to take responsibility for what we do. We are the ones who vote these people into office, both local, state, etc. We give them the reigns to do what they do and then we are the first to complain. I do not feel either candidate can help us get back on track. To much has been given away or taken away. God Help Us!

Posted by: Allen Location: Greenville on Aug 1, 2008 at 08:11 AM
I'm sure that there are some ignorant people that are going to vote for Obama because of his skin color, but the majority of us will vote for him because he is the best choice we have. I have no doubt that he will win in November, and he will be one of the best presidents we've had. I get a real kick out hearing people complain about immigration, when the fact of the matter is 95% of this country's population is decended from immigrants.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Aug 1, 2008 at 07:44 AM
To Lavon..On target with your comments. People need to start taking care of their own, and become less dependent on others for support. People need to quit reading newspapers, as the gospel, when in fact papers are geared to those with an 8th grade education. When watching the news, horror stories sell, and thoughtful jounalistic approaches to problem solving doesn't. I've lived through the good and bad times, and you can have all the money in the world; but your health and welfare of your family should be top priority. Quit being led around by your nose and stand up for what you believe in!!

You can't blame the problems here in american on no one except the american people, not the president or some politician. Look we here in america have been self destructing for some time now. I mean look at how we are constantly at each others throat over nonsense. This is what our culture has become, we hate each other and act like animals. We created this ultimate demise for ourselves, if you don't believe me just go back and look at these posts. How are we going to make america any better we dont even like each other, com on people i know you gotta be smart enough to see it. Politicans don't run the american economy, we do. We stick it to each other every chance we get and you wonder why everything is so expensive, it's because were greedy here in america and will stop at nothing to rip each other off just to make an extra dollar, Lets face it IT'S THE AMERICAN WAY!

This is the biggest bunch of crap I've have ever read in my life. You are blogging on here (and let me tell you, some of it is gramatically PAINFUL to read), typing as if you know this man. Let me start with this one...MCCANIAC - Did you know that Obama was a CONSTITUTIONAL Law Professor at the University of Chicago before he became a U.S. senator. I think he's probably a little better versed on the document than John McCain. It's not surprising that the democrats who have blogged have done a considerably greater amount of research on the candidates than the Republicans. I have personally researched EVERY candidate since the beginning of the primary elections-Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green... I'm a white, 32 year-old, working, military wife. My husband is serving his 3rd tour in Iraq. He's served honorably as an officer in the USMC for 19 years. He's campaigning for Obama with his young Marines in the desert. The military families are paying for Bush's incompetence. Obama '08!

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez ! on Jul 31, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Let me repeat this again also because some of you really don't get it...so read it slow and over and over if need be. Not only is Obama BLACK he is half WHITE. I don't understand, that should make everyone happy. If black people wanted a black president we would have backed Jessie Jackson! Understand now? Its not about color. Stop acting like black people are only voting for Obama because he is half black. Does that mean that the white people voting for him is doing it because he is half white? LOLOLOLOL This election will make history. Oh you do know history means......his-story. Its going to be how ever the writer interprets it. I just hope i don't get the edition written by a McCain lover. Because when you write about someone that comes in number two the words are always so bitter.

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Jul 31, 2008 at 10:28 PM
I do hate when people make comments under my name....if you feel a certain way say it coward and make up a name of your own. Don't stand behind my name to get an ignorant point across.......Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Jul 31, 2008 at 06:03 PM Obama will make changes to help our race. We need him in office to look out for our rights as African Americans. We must band together......How pathetic, I am quite outspoken but those aren't my words. All that know me from the blogs know I wouldn't say something so blatant racist. Take some vitamin B12, your brain is slow!

Does anyone here know his (the great one) economic plan? How he will affect YOUR pocket? Have you bothered to check? Guess what! The money is all the same color GREEN! Obama's plan will take it from you and it doesn't matter who's holding the money when he takes it. No matter if you're Black or White, Yellow or Red. Get with it people. MLK would not be proud of this because Obama IS getting votes based on the color of his skin and not the content of his character! It's certainly not because of his policies because I have not found a supporter yet that can tell me what his policies are! So sad and pure shameful!

Posted by: Fletcher Location: Greenville on Jul 31, 2008 at 08:27 PM
I have read many of your posts over the last few weeks. It sounds like to me your voting for Obama because of the color of his skin. "Obama will make changes to help OUR race. WE need him in office to LOOK OUT for OUR rights as African Americans. WE must band together" My question is can you look past the color of his skin? You have the typical Eastern Carolina outlook. It's pretty pathetic. How about a President that will look after ALL people regardless of the color of ones skin?

Give me a president who will: take care of our elderly, take care of our homeless, bring our men home, send ALL ILLEGAL aliens back where they belong (what part of "illegal" don't the powers that be understand????), stop spending billions of dollars on unneccesary things (such as space exploration, etc,) and start spending that money on the US citizens and their needs!! Let's get the US straightened out before we try to straigthen out foreign countries! Wake up America! I don't know about you, but I would like to find a President that could come even somewhat close to what I said. In my opinion, neither one does! So sad for us! And don't vote for someone solely for their race or gender, REALLY look at their record and forget the BS they are trying to sell you to get elected! God BLess America and her people!

I am so sick of you idiot talking about Bush taking the election in florida. That did not happen. I probably would have been a Republican Landslide had not the crooked left wing media gotten into it. Both times the media reported the democrate the winner at the closing of the polls on the penesula. Florida is in two time zones. The panhandle is on central time and the home to many times more conservatives (less yankee transplants). They thought their vote wouldn't count so they turned around and went home without voting. And while we are on transplant yankees; the reason you come here is because of our way of life and to get away from your old way of life. Whats the first thing you do? Reality Check you are 100% correct. We should not judge Obama by the emails that go around about him prematurely. Yes we know that emails for the most part are not true especially during a campaign year. The workers for the different campaigns go to almost any length to make sure the other party is slandered and slurred against. Let me ask you this. Can he do all he is promising? Let me answer you as well. NO. Him and no other president has been able to do it. And by no means is that to cut him down as a person. I know the house has the last say so when a bill is presented. My question to all that will read this post. Do you feel Obama or McCain is the man for the job. Don't answer here but truly search yourself and think about it. Compare them both to past presidents and also consider the needs of the country. Can either man get the job done without taking away from the ones of us writing here. I wonder.

Obama hasnt taken a definate stand on any topic. He is the quinticital polotician. He says only the things he feels will ensure he is elected. He could careless about this country of ours. All Barack Obama cares about is being part of HISTORY. Obama preaches change, and we do need change. Who holds the majority in the House? How holds the majority in the Senate? Who runs almost ever State in the Union? Yes! You guessed right the Democrates. So we do need CHANGE!!! But Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party are not the answer this Country needs. We need to CHANGE this right wing media left, and all of these bleeding heart liberals into conservatives. God Bless America and God Bless John McCain.

"I don't trust Obama" "I just don't trust him." Why? Because he is black? Is that it? Because of all the chain emails floating around? Because of all the rumors and lies saying he is not patriotic or he does not support the troops? Check out snopes.com to find out the real deal behind all this american flag being removed, not saluting the flag, quaran carrying, being a muslim and all that. It is all lies and propaganda to discredit him. Anybody can be fooled by the lies and deceit, but I have noticed that bigots buy into it a lot quicker. Bigots refuse to research to find the truth. They hear what they want to hear and accept it as the truth. Rather than find out whether he really refused to salute the flag, they walk around telling everyone, "he won't even salute the flag" based off of a chain email they received. That's how you judge a candidate, by stuff that belongs in your junk mail box? Turn on that spam filter and maybe you can get the real deal.

I have no intention of voting for Obama. I don't trust him and I feel he has a silver tongue saying what voters want to hear. We need change yes but only God can give that. We all should know that no president can make any change unless the house agrees. No bill can pass unless the majority rules. Some of you are very blind because of his promises & race. Please take your blinders off and see the man not the contender. This country was built on Biblical principles and freedoms and our military has fought to keep it that way. I have a problem when the presidential contender can't shake the hands of a line of military men and women and say a personal thank you. The American flag is our symbol of pride and freedom here. I have a severe problem with anyone that would follow a person, male or female, that would denounce a symbol that has stood for them to have the right to do and say what they want. GOD please help us to see.

well well readers, you either vote for senator Obama, or john Mccaine, or don't vote at all. that is your three choices, just make sure your personal feelings don't get in the way because personal feeling never make the right dicision, and the reason why I say that is, just read some of the columns and you see all these young people killing, assulting, breaking into people houses, many of the older men are making life dicision base on their personal feeling as well and that is a no no because when you get older you know not to do that, and when the feelings is gone, you is left with a reality that you wish you had a second chance. Just think about it soberly ok.

TO: Melissa in Washington.............Bravo! That speech disgusted me. I absolutely do not care what the Europeans think about us. They should be kissing our tails until the end of time. We kept them from German rule TWICE!

To: Anonymous on Jul 30, 2008 at 03:41 PM You totally escaped the question!! If you are a hard working middle class citizen you don't expect something for nothing. Those that are too lazy to work typically do. Are you receiving or contributing to the cause of the government giving $$ to people to pay for gas that drive around in extremely nice SUV's? I promise you this, I contribute and am frankly tired of it!!!

Obama will win and life will go on. If he don't win this country is destroyed, my god look at what the repubs have dont to it over the last 7 years. America cannot afford to have MCcain in the white house.

Folks think about this: obamas democratic controled congress is rated at 17%, the president is at 26%. Now who really runs the country? The president or the Congress.

To:love obama. Did you know Obama went to Germany and spoke to the German people and did not even go see the wounded troops at the military hospital. What a good leader, can't wait to see how he treats all of us on active duty if he is elected. He should be ashamed of himself.

To:love obama, that was about an ignorant post. All of you voting for that communist need to have your heads examined. He WILL ruin this country. The days of us being a superpower will be long gone by the time he is out of office. I have kept trying to post a website about his sneaky little tactics but WITN won't post it. The website does not smear his name, it just states the facts about his questionable decision making since he has been in congress.

It's going to be an O Bummer for all of you Obama supporters once he gets O Beaten by McCain!

love obama: these comments must have struck a cord for you to resort calling people you don't know "cowards without backbones".

Posted by: Melissa Location: Washington on Jul 30, 2008 at 06:36 PM
why doesn't he set up in Germany? Since he's so ashamed of the U.S. why doesn't he move to a different country since we're so bad he has to apologize to foreign people for being American. I LOVE AMERICA LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. All these people want to vote for him because they think he's going to make it easier for them to get Welfare and free everything (like they don't already). I think him and McCain are idiots. But i'll take McCain anyday over i'm sorry i'm american.

It seems change is a recurring theme, but what specific change is desired? The generic answers of political, economic, social, and environmental are too broad and not well defined. Are there subsets within these categories that is being sought after or is the theme of change merely a hollow battle cry for another empty suit from D.C.? As far as getting over myself, I do not believe this is about race for anyone. There are great African Americans that I admire and respect such as J.C. Watts (former Oklahoma Congressman), Walter Williams, and Thomas Sowell (economists and authors), Armstrong Williams, and Larry Elder (talk show hosts and authors) to name only a few. I am like everyone else in only wanting to see the country move forward and prosper.
