Police officers, firemen, media representatives and fish, all in one spot Sunday.
Folks weren't eating Shad, but instead these fish had another use. They went airborne as part of Grifton's Top Gun Shad Slingers Competition. The competition is only in its second year as part of the almost-month long Shad Festival celebrations, but what it lacks in experience, it makes up for in fun. However, it also lets people meet their local public servants.
Brent Baker actually got to sling a Shad. This year's winner was defending champ Shawn Cratt, who flung his fish over 100 feet. For more information about the Shad festival, just go to the city of Grifton website and click on the fish.
