Hundreds of spectators crammed the beach in Kill Devil Hills this weekend, to watch what's become a classic rite of spring. More watched than actually got wet, for the annual Outer Banks YMCA Polar Plunge, but still scores of people took a dip for charity. Event organizers say they easily exceeded their goal of raising $15,000 for YMCA's "We Build People Scholarship" fund. Even though the sun was shining, the water temperature was still hanging around the mid to upper 40s, enough to take your breath away; but for those in attendance, taking the plunge was well worth it.
