Your child may have to find a new high school if a state judge follows through on a drastic threat. Judge Howard Manning Junior has threatened to close 19 high schools across the state due to poor performance under state standards, and 7 of those are right here in Eastern Carolina.
The schools in jeopardy are Bertie High School, Northwest and Southeast Halifax High Schools, Hertford County High, Northampton West High School, Plymouth High School in Washington County, and Goldsboro High School in Wayne County. The judge is ordering sweeping changes including replacing principals at the schools.
Manning Junior has warned state leaders for two years that dozens of high schools fall short of a state constitutional requirement that all students receive adequate educational opportunities.
