One Commissioner Says There Are More Important Things to Worry About

The debate over the removal of a Confederate monument at the Pitt County Courthouse continues. Several Pitt County residents have joined together and introduced a proposal at Monday Night's commissioners meeting to have the monument dedicated in 1914, removed from the courthouse lawn. Opponents of the proposal say the monument is a part of the county's history and should stay right where it is. Chairman of the county commissioners, Jimmy Garris, says there are more important things the county needs to focus on, like mental health issues, and gang issues. These are issues Garris says the community can unite on and work to resolve.
