15 store clerks have been cited for selling tobacco to minors.

Over the past three months the Alcohol Law Enforcement agents cited the store clerks in six counties for selling tobacco products to a minor. ALE agents checked 120 retail establishments in Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Pamlico, Pitt and Wilson counties. The ALE agents every month randomly check stores that sell cigarettes and other tobacco products to make sure the clerks are asking for identification and refusing sales to anyone under the age of 18.

I worked in a store for several years. Never could figure out why the kids that came in everyday trying to buy cigarettes or beer, nothing was ever done about it. Looks like they could be fined or something. Cops said they couldn't.

You know the only time anybody gets caught on this thing is when the set the clerk up. That should be entrapment, and the kid trying to buy and their parents should get a fine also.

That's just the cost of doing business. when the fines are increased and a little jail or prison time given the stores will take it serious. now why weren't they checking for beer sales to minors as it's more serious a $250 fine.
