A football player for James Kenan High School in Duplin County was shot to death Wednesday night.
Warsaw police tell us just after midnight 18 year-old Derrick Barden, who was a starting linebacker for the team that won a state championship last year, was shot on Matthews street as he was sitting outside.
Police say the shooting was in the same apartment complex where Lisa Wallace was shot in May and lost her twins because of it. A suspect is in custody in that shooting.
Police say Barden was hit by a bullet after gunfire rang out from a wooded area. Police are still looking for a suspect. If you have any information, you can call the Warsaw Police department.
Warsaw Police say this is the 7th shooting death in the town since Memorial Day.

Sympathy to the family.. It is astounding to me that there are that many killings in Warsaw. Wilmington DE has had 13 an it is a lot bigger city. I do not know the family but I feel bad for them. I feel bad for any area that is loosing their young to sensless violence. Communities need to wake up and find ways to prevent this heartbreak going forward. That guy from Detroit MI obviously never lived in North Carolina as I did or he would not be so faceious. North Carolina is actually a lot more civilized than Detroit. That guy could spend his time catching the "bad guys" in MI. Maybe he could join the Detroit Police Dept. There should be quite enough "bounting hunting" to keep him busy. Or maybe he could joun the Marine Courp. They could use some more help in Afghanistan.
Sir, Do NC still have bounty hunters? why not give a bigger reward on these guys, I might come help look for them, either way, you give away something like set of rod-N-Rells, or free tires, orlivin room set and you will see how many will turn these guys in.just a thought
Im going to miss Derrick. Before he left i was playing with him and laughing with him. Charell and I were watching a movie with him. Then he said that somebody threatened him. Then my friend Chrell told Derrick whenever he gets back home call us. But that never seemed to happen. But im going to miss Derrick i had a lot of fun with him. I miss his smiles and his ears. Thats what i play with everytime i see him but now i cantttt. But i pray for his family. Josh Barden, Adrain, Adam, Mont and more i love yall
