Cobra Still On The Loose Save Email Print

It's been more than a month now since a herpetologist says at least one Monocled Cobra was released in an Onslow County neighborhood and it is still on the loose.

The snake is highly venomous and if a person is bitten its venom targets the central nervous system.

The snake was found under Jeff Wisman's Deck. He says while he lets he four year-old play outside he does remain cautious.

Paula Aldis and her kids live just up the street from where the snake was seen more than a month ago. She says she's still concerned for her kids safety.

Herpetologist Jennifer Grooms, who lives in Onslow County and owns a Red Spitting Cobra, says that while it's good to be informed, Onslow County residents should not be afraid.

Officials still don't know how the cobra got there.

It should be illegal to own such an animal and the fine should be stiff enough to send a real message. The obviously uneducated and irresponsible owner just did not get the danger of this snake being on the loose, especially if it is even remotely possible that it has a mate on the loose with it. Why would anyone even want such an animal? It is not a pet.

Maybe this county should invest in some antivemon very soon because this snake is very deadly and we don't need our young children to die by a snake, our children is suffering already by oversleeping parents and far away dads.
