A man Greenville police tried to serve involuntary commitment papers to early Thursday morning gave chase and ended up dead.
With shots fired at the home and on Greenville Boulevard, lawmen say 34 year old Kerry Turner fled his home in a car to get away from police just before 7 a.m. Authorities say he ran over mail boxes and rammed several police cars trying to get away.
Police say Turner was believed to have a weapon and at some point had barricaded himself inside the house. Because of the shootings, the State Bureau of Investigation has been called in.
The police officers involved in the shooting have been put on administrative leave with pay, until the SBI's investigation is complete.
