A three month old baby girl is in the hospital with serious injuries after sheriff's deputies say she was abused at her daycare. Pitt County Sheriff's deputies arrested 55 year old Rebecca Baker Jones of Rebecca Jones Family Child Care Home in Winterville. They charged her with felony child abuse and assault on the child. Deputies say it stems from an incident on Monday, where they say the baby appears to have been shaken badly. The child is suffering from blood on the brain and retinal hemorrhaging. We checked with the state Department of Health and Human Services, and they tell us Jones had been licensed since 1989 and had no major problems. She was licensed to care for up to twelve kids. Deputies say she only had five. Since being arrested, state officials say Jones has given up her license. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has a public file on all licensed childcare centers. You can find it online by heading to the following web site.
