Less Money for Emergency Volunteers

Volunteers who respond to emergencies in one community will be limited in how much money they can make. The Nags Head town board implemented a $1,000 cap for certified volunteers who go inside burning buildings, and a $500 annual reimbursement for support staff. They say the old plan was too costly. Nags Head fire officials say volunteers are crucial for supporting the handful of on duty professionals during bad accidents and house fires.
