Midwestern Fires Rage, Threat Here Low

Hundreds of firefighters have been battling several grass fires in both Texas and Oklahoma. The wind driven fires, which have been burning for days, are being blamed for the deaths of four people and the loss of over 70 homes.

Here in Eastern Carolina the threat of grass fires is low right now, according to the North Carolina Forestry Service. Forestry spokesperson Kelli Palmer says fires can occur here if the weather changes, or if burning trash is left unattended.

Although they haven't been placed on stand-by status yet, Eastern North Carolina forestry officials are prepared to be sent to help battle those western fires.
