According to rape crisis advocates, one out of three women will be raped in a lifetime. Not until recent years has DNA evidence proved to be such a determining factor in bringing violators to justice. Now, when victims go to the hospital, nurses are quick to grab a rape kit which involves a 17 step process and can take hours to collect evidence. But the rape kits are paying off. In Onslow County, the sheriff says of the 26 rape cases there this year, 10 have already been convicted because of the evidence from the rape kits.
