Jet noise filled the air over Washington County early Wednesday morning and so did the voices of opponents of the Outlying Landing Field.
Ted Brown, a spokesperson for the U.S. Navy, says a Super Hornet Jet conducted test runs near Pocosin Lakes Wildlife Refuge in Washington County. He says the jet made nearly nine passes to measure sound levels in the area and to study the effects of jet noise on waterfowl.
Brown confirmed the location is one of the proposed sites the Navy is considering for an Outlying Landing Field. The Navy's findings will be placed in an environmental impact study that's expected to be completed early 2006.
