Two men are behind bars accused by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office of trafficking several grams of uncut heroin.
A media release says that on January 25th, 41-year-old Eric Strong of Winterville and 24-year-old Kenneth Harley of Clinton, Maryland were arrested and charged. Strong faces felony trafficking in heroin by possession and transport. Harley faces felony trafficking in heroin by possession.
Officials say that 25 grams of raw, uncut heroin was found during a targeted traffic stop on Highway 903 outside of Stokes by deputies. The uncut heroin has a street value between $25,000 to $30,000.
“Pure, uncut heroin is absolutely lethal if injected,” explained Sheriff Neil Elks. “Once cut, 25 grams break down into 1200 single dosage units.”
Strong, who is also said to be a fugitive with warrants from Maryland, was given a $1.5 million secured bond. Harley was given a $100,000 secured bond. Both are being held in the Pitt County Detention Center.
The arrests were a part of a two-month investigation by the sheriff’s office narcotics unit and with assistance by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
