Getting a New Lease on Life

Loss of a job, a break in income, even becoming sick. These are just a few reasons why someone can become homeless. But drug abuse is what landed Golden Anderson in the Greenville community shelter.

Thirty years of using crack cocaine and heroin finally took a toll on Golden, and she decided she needed a new lease on life. Golden checked in to the Greenville community shelter eight months ago where she's been sober ever since. And Monday, Golden signed a lease on a new apartment, has a part time job and is also enrolling in Pitt Community College. It's a lifestyle, she as well as the team at the shelter, are excited about. Golden says after she finishes her classes at Pitt Community College, she plans to pursue a career in counseling or social work.
