Take a look at this time lapse weather model of the smoke plume from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The video shows the smoke as it started blowing west Wednesday, and shows where it is headed over the next 48 hours through June 13th. It extends well beyond North Carolina.

The dense smoke advisory has been continued through 10:00 a.m. Thursday for Beaufort, Craven, Dare, Greene, Hyde, Lenoir, Martin, Pamlico, Pitt, Tyrrell and Washington counties.

The smoke from the fire hit my area of Greensboro about 11:30 a.m. today (6-13-08). Thoughts and prayers for all those involved in trying to put out the wildfire, as well as for all those displaced or waiting to see if they will be displaced by the wildfire. We used to do almost all of our fishing in the coastal area at "The Frying Pan." Those were great times (now long past unfortunately). And we used to "go out to eat" at the "Scuppernong Cafe" in downtown Columbia back in the 60's and early 70's.

It is smokey in Kinston and has gotten worse as the day has progressed. AT 7:30 when I came to work it was just hazy now at 9:27 it is smokey. Why is there not a smoke advisory for Lenoir County?

You can't put a certain date on when the fire will be out, they are doing all they can. It could be 3 weeks, it could be three months.
