It's that time of year again to pick cotton, also referred to as "White Gold" in the cotton industry. Cotton farmers are quickly harvesting their cotton crops now before heavy rain hits the area again. This year's growing season started off on a good foot according to many farmers, but a dry spell, then a week of constant rain caused the cotton to plummet on the grading scale. Sanderson, a Pitt County cotton farmer, says this year's yield is still as good as last year's. Eastern Carolina farmers are also harvesting soybeans right now.
