October Brings New Laws

October has ushered in a number of new laws affecting North Carolina residents. Among them, a response to an e-coli outbreak at last year's state fair. There are also new laws designed to combat domestic violence. The Animal Exhibition Sanitation Law places the state's Agriculture Commissioner in charge of overseeing sanitation conditions for animal exhibits at the North Carolina State Fair. Another new law clarifies domestic violence and tenancy laws for North Carolina. It toughens custody, protective orders and visitation rights laws. A new license category has also been established for assisted living communities serving only the elderly. Also affecting senior citizens, a new jury exemption act allows people 72 years and older to request exemption from jury duty.
