Shackleford Horses Bill

Legislation to allow more wild horses on Shackleford Banks in Cape Lookout National Seashore is heading to the U.S. Senate. North Carolina Senator Richard Burr says the bill would return decision-making to local communities where it belongs. The bill had been introduced by North Carolina Representative Walter Jones and would allow no less than 110 roaming horses with a target population between 120 and 130. Current law allows only 100 and in past park officials have removed horses to prevent crowding and disease.
