THIS IS AN ARCHIVED STORY FROM 2008:
The Internal Revenue Service says it will start directly depositing economic stimulus checks Monday. Checks will be mailed out beginning in early May.

Click here to see the update schedule for economic stimulus payments.

You cannot get an economic stimulus check, the IRS says, unless you file a 2007 tax return. 130 million household are eligible for the checks. Many individuals can expect a $600, while married couples receive $1,200. Parents may receive an additional $300 for each child.

You can calculate how much you will likely receive by clicking here.

The IRS says you will get your stimulus check by direct deposit if that is what you checked for your tax refund when you filed your tax return. If you did not check the box for direct deposit, the IRS will mail you a check.

UPDATE:
Watch out for Scams dealing with your Economic Stimulus Check!

The Greenville Police Department Financial Crimes Unit has received intelligence that Individuals and business need to be aware that the following scams have already sprung up related to the Economic Stimulus Check initiative:

*Rebate Phone Call: In this scam, consumers receive a phone call from someone identifying themselves as an IRS employee. The caller tells the targeted victim that he is eligible for a sizable rebate for filing his taxes early. The caller then states that he needs the customer's bank account information for the direct deposit of the rebate. If the customer refuses, he is told that he cannot receive the rebate.

*Refund Email Scam: Customer receives an email - which falsely claims to come from the IRS, informing the recipient that he or she is eligible for a tax refund for a specific amount, and instructs the recipient to click on a link in the e-mail to access a refund claim form.

*Audit Email Scam: Customer receives an email notifying the recipient that his or her tax return will be audited. The customer either clicks on a link or contacts a phone number included in the email. This is the first scam of which the IRS is aware that uses this to get the victim to respond.

*Tax Law Change Email Scam - the email is addressed to businesses, accountants and “Treasury” managers. It instructs them to download information on tax law changes by clicking on a series of links to publications on businesses, estate taxes, excise taxes, exempt organizations and IRA's and other retirement plans.

*Paper Check Phone Call Scam: In a current telephone scam, a caller claims to be an IRS employee who is calling because the IRS sent a check to the customer which has not yet been negotiated. The caller states that because the check has not been cashed, the IRS wants to verify the individual’s bank account number.

*Better Business Bureau Rebate Scams - In addition to the above rebate scams, IRS officials are also warning businesses of emails that appear to be complaints forwarded to them by the Better Business Bureau. Businesses receiving such questionable e-mails should contact the local BBB directly and not respond to the email.

Good question! For some reason, the archived story has received enough views to put it in a most viewed list. We'll add "ARCHIVED STORY" to the top of the story to make sure people know it's archived.

I think the law makers need to concentrate on the law. If they pass the law for higher rates on medical treatment of obese people. They also need to do it for drug related and alcohol related etc. Everyone that needs medical treatment needs to be treated equally. No matter what your sickness we have to pay enough already. Who ever susgested the idea needs to pay more. They are probaly obese and a alcoholic and probaly does drugs too. Think about it.

Posted by: peachypecan Location: Georgia on Jun 27, 2008 at 10:08 AM
my ss ends in 80 and I checked the IRS website and it says my check will be mailed on July 4th! I thought they were closed on July 4th. Besides I have not received a letter in the mail yet stating when my check should arrive and today is June 27th. I have heard of some people already receiving their paper check and their digits end in 82 or 83? So I dont know exactly how they are mailing them.

Posted by: candee Location: TEXAS on Jun 25, 2008 at 02:32 PM
I simply want to know if anyone recieved their stimulus check early by mail, with ss# ending in 85-89? Also, to comment on the forum itself, everyone made some valid point in some way or another. However, truth be told. This is our money, this is suppose to our country of liberty??? Yet, majority of our country is struggling right now, and we are issued a few coins, to bandage the situation?? I truly agree with the American puppett-their right, we are manipulated by this corrupted system, and we shouldn't be fighting one another but with each other!

We received our letter today that our check would be coming, for the full amount we are due. Our # is 64 so keep up the faith that yours will come too...

Posted by: kelly Location: PA on Jun 24, 2008 at 12:26 PM
to Lori & those who think this is free money from the gov't: It is not free money, it is OUR money. It is a TAX REBATE, which means it is money we have already paid to the gov't in taxes from OUR EARNED INCOME. I say the best place for MY money is in MY POCKET. This is not some form of welfare from Uncle Sam, this money was from income we already earned that they are giving back to us. And since when does having a need for money make you not worthy of parenting? If your name is not GATES you will always need money for something.

I received my letter and it stated that I should receive my check on the 2oth of june, a few days before, or that following Monday which would have been the 23rd. I did get my money on the 23rd and my friend too. So if your letter stated the 20th, and according to how your mail runs, you should receive your check that Monday. Thank God, I got mine. To everyone else yours will come too. Also every adult will not get $600.00 for themselves, it depends on something dealing with what your income number was for line 37 on your income tax form, that what a representative told me from the IRS. Good Luck and be patient to all!!!

I too was married this year in March. I got my stimulus check under the name and filing stauts by which I filed my 2007 taxes. I didnt get what I was told I would get, but hey, every lil bit helps these days! My husband is also receiving a check from his 2007 taxes and he filed single. So you should get whatever amount you are due from the way you filed your taxes, nothing should change even though you recently got married. By the way, Congrats!!

Posted by: tonia rose Location: edmore on Jun 19, 2008 at 11:48 AM
I filed for 2007 taxes and i got married in 2008 so i was wondering if me changing my last name would effect my stimulas check? my wedding date was april 26 2008 and i changed my name on my drivers license and my social secreity card. if you have any answer for me i would apppreciate a reply. thank you so much.

I usually keep my comments to myself, but I do have to agree with Tammy, that made the comment to Lori in Kentucky. We all need to be grateful for whatever we receive from the gov, because every little bit helps, and it is truthly a blessing the idea came up about a stimulus check at all. I did receive my letter stating I would get mine by the 20th of june, and the last digits of my ss# is 53. Remember everyone, we got to be patient, it is alot of checks being mailed out to people. Good Luck to all of you !!!!

Posted by: Tammy Location: NC on Jun 18, 2008 at 01:53 PM
Lori in Kentucky, You lost me in your run on sentences and your improper language and spelling. Now, as for the check, the letter I got said to keep it (the letter) as a reference when tax time comes. For your information some people got more than 1200 and I was one of those people. I got 2100 and as for having kids I have three and NO ONE can afford kids but yet, they are gifts from God and he will provide a way for you to provide for your kids. I was in need of that check I got, and if you do not need your you are welcome to send it my way. I caught my bills up and banked some as well. YET Lori, it is none of your business what people do with their money or how many kids they have. God helps those who help themselves.

I do not know why everyone is saying that they need this money and do not be harsh on people. Well I am not going to be harsh but please stop complaning what would you do if you were not getting this.... what every one always does get by well i am sorry to say but really what is 1200 dollars really going to do you will buy some thing or pay off some bills well you will just get riht back in debt when the next hardship comes. People need to gog back to school do not have children if they can not get by. Sorry for being so harsh but people cry about everything you get this for free and yes it is free you would not get this if he had not put it up everyone says its your taxes from next year but it is not you would not get this if he had not put in the plan you would get what you normaly would like you will the year of 2009 taxes they have to say it is extra taxes for next year but the year after you will not get the 1200 or 600 extra no way so it is FREE

I have a question, I received a letter from the IRS stating that I owe on some taxes froma couple years ago. I have until the end of June to respond. I then received my letter stating that my check will be sent out by June 13th. What do you think the chances are that I will receive a stimulus check? Personally, I think this is all a joke and really don't care if I get it or not. I am glad I am not counting on it. However, how is it stimulating the economy if the Gov't is taking everyones check that owes? If you don't receive it, that is one thing. If they take it and pay off a bill(Their's) then I think it's wrong. I just think it would be a sick joke if they keep mine after they sent me the letter saying I would get it. We shall see. Hopefully, next time all of you will just wait for your check and be happy. Never count on anything. Especially if it involves the U.S. Gov't. Lastly, does that IRS Stimulus check status site even work? Everyone I talk to says it does not.

Actually doesn't it say in the constitution that taxes are voluntary to pay and yet we are forced to pay them. Why is it is stated that they are voluntary? By the way did all of you that got your check get a letter first or did you just get your check?

Posted by: Got Mine Location: On Time on Jun 11, 2008 at 09:20 AM
Louise in New Mexico, you are luck that you have not been arrested or something before now for having unpaid taxes. I am glad they took your check to pay your taxes and I am glad they are taking checks from people who owe child support and whatever else. The government doesnt owe you anything, you owed them and they got what was due them. I am sorry you needed your check so badly but you had an unpaid bill and well like all other creditors they got theirs. Get a job to pay your bills and if you have one get a better paying one so you can afford these bill you are racking up. Here again I am sorry you didnt get your check but OH WELL... I got mine!!!

We need law reform to protect the average citizen. Moral - Just and Fair. Insurance companies, corporations, foriegn interests have all benefited at the expense of the American People. It isn't "We The People" it is "We The Elite". Our constitution has been underwritten by business. And there is no defense. Do you really think there is a difference between Republican and Democrat. It's good cop - bad cop. We are all just a bunch of puppets for them to manuvuer and overwhelm with hogwash. Bin Laden and Hussien were on our governments payrole before these wars. The permanent members of the U.N. are also the biggest arms dealers. You can't start a war or shoot a gun without buying bullets. They profit from the worlds discord. Now we have a new evil, speculators. Come on!!! I say drop them all to minimum wage if they are supposed to be considered public servants. I say make some common sense laws to protect the everyday shmow instead of make it impossible for us to find justice. Make sense?

I was scheduled to get mine on June 13. I got it today! YaY! Now I can half afford to put gas in my car!

To all the people who complained on this page that did not get an economic stimulas check I feel for you. But really we all had to know the Gov does not really care about us they just care about votes and all there big salaries. I knew it was to good to be true. I knew that there had to be something in it for the Gov. They knew that a million people owed money. So they knew they would get to keep alot of it. That it why they offered to help people. Instead most of the people who really needed it won't get it because of back taxes. While women who have had 20 kids and live off of welfare get it all. The working middle class who barely make enough to eat always get shafted. They kept my check becasue they say I owed for 2004. I counted on they check like you would not believe. I need it so bad. It is not even funny. I 'am so behind on bills. Don't even get me started about the price of Gas!

was suppose to have gotten mine Friday June 6, havent seen it but its still early. Maybe will be in soon

Posted by: anon Location: Gville on Jun 9, 2008 at 07:07 AM
Stephanie I know that them taking it to offset your old debt is bad. I would so hate it if they did that to me and I think that if you were already working on resolving that issue that they shouldn't have done it but it does say on the IRS website that WITN links to that By law, the stimulus payments are offset to satisfy past-due taxes, student loans, child support and certain other debts. so it does state that it will satisfy past due taxes and does not specify how old the past due taxes must be. Hope that helps.

Posted by: Curious Location: Plymouth on Jun 8, 2008 at 09:34 AM
Your article offers an updated IRS schedule for the stimulus checks. Why does the ACE Check Cashing here in Plymouth have a copy of an "updated" schedule that advertises these checks release at least a week earlier. By the IRS site it says mine will be sent by the 13th, the copy on the window at ACE states it as being released on the 6th.

Posted by: Stephanie Location: Texas on Jun 6, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Well the whole thing is a big scam, we owed on a previous year that we are working with a lawyer on, year 200 to be exact. We were advised to file 2007 on time so that we dont get further and further behind. We should have gotten a $5,700 refund this year, but that was applied to our old "debt", got a letter in the mail saying that we would receive $1800 for the stimulus check. I received a letter today stating that the full $1800 was applied to the old "debt" as well. NEVER in any of the explanations of the stimulus program did they say that it would apply to anyones old debt. It always and only said it only applied to the 2007 tax year, if you owed for that year that would apply, never anything about other older years. I am disgusted with this, just when you get your hopes up that the government is out there and doing good, aha nope one more time they get to stick it to the middle class person!!!

My stiulus check was held because my wife owed $500.00 The rest of the money was held because supossedly I owe my daugther student loan. I olny nkew because I called to find out what was going on with the check

Mary, Call 1-800-829-1040, press (2) for questions about your refund, payment or account, than press (3) to speak to a representive. You will probable be on hold for about 30 minutes before getting someone, but at least you can speak to someone. Good luck

The last two digits of my ssn are 81, when can I expect my stimulus check?

Posted by: mary Location: eastern n.c. on Jun 6, 2008 at 01:13 AM
I did my taxes with h@r block, they told my check would be direct deposited on may 9th. I did dd on my refund.Today is may 6th no dd as of yet.I call the # for the irs, it`s a dead end. All they can tell me is to check the schedule, the schedule says, may 9th.My last ss# is 42. I`ts frustrating you can`t talk to a "live" person who can give you a straight answer.

Posted by: Linda Location: NC on Jun 5, 2008 at 02:20 PM
Hey Brett, I just found out my check will be mailed out on June 13th. I had requested direct deposit and my last two numbers of my social security number are 01. So hopefully yours will come soon too. I almost gave up. Good luck.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 5, 2008 at 12:52 PM
To Brett in Alanta. There is suppose to be a hotline number you can call if you do not receive your rebate within a month of the date on the letter they send you telling the amount you will get and the date. If you did not get one of those letters you may not be getting a rebate.

Posted by: Brett Location: Atlanta on Jun 4, 2008 at 09:12 PM
I was supposed to get my check, Direct Deposit, on May 9th. I never got it and heard that the IRS made some errors, by depositing funds into other people's accounts. Almost a month later and I don't think I will ever get it. The IRS makes a mistake and I have to deal with it, while watching everyone else I know, enjoying their rebate. If I was to owe the IRS money, they would come after me and garnish my wages...but it's ok when they owe you the money. Some times I feel like the unluckiest person alive.

Posted by: LATONYA Location: NORTH CAROLIN on Jun 4, 2008 at 06:33 PM
I DID RECEIVE MY CHECK AND MY LAST DIGIT IS 81. I RECIEVE A LETTER FIRST SAYING I SHOULD RECIEVE IT BY MAY 23. BUT I DID NOT GET IS UNTIL MAY 27TH.

Posted by: MO3 Location: Pink Hill on Jun 3, 2008 at 09:30 AM
If you owe back child support you should not get ANYTHING and be luck that you are not in jail for back support. I have NO sympathy for men and women who do not pay their support. YOU are only hurting your child not their mother or father that is supporting them 24/7.

Posted by: Coffee Talk Location: NC on Jun 2, 2008 at 04:41 PM
For those of you who did direct deposit for the first time this 2007 refund you will have your check mailed to you and it will go by the mailing schedule and not the direct deposit schedule. There are some qualifications for direct deposit. So don't panic. This has been very confusing. I understand that people need this extra money, it is not about greedy it is about paying the bills and putting food on the table for their families. Don't be so harsh as to think people don't need this extra help especially with the gas prices and food prices going up. Some people don't make as much as other's and need it. Try to be nice, because if it isn't a big deal for you "God bless you" your more fortunate than others.

Posted by: Tina Location: NC on Jun 2, 2008 at 08:53 AM
Jose...I do know even if you are paying child support, they will intercept the stimulus check "if you are behind" to pay for any arrears that have incurred. This money will go to the parent of the child at question. This is for NC...so you may need to check for your State but I am sure it is the same.

Posted by: Jose Location: Milwaukee on May 31, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Has Anyone had there Stimulus check withheld with the IRS because of a childsupport debt and if you are currently paying????

Posted by: linda Location: NC on May 30, 2008 at 07:27 PM
Stacey, don't feel bad, my ssn ends in 01 and i requested direct deposit. I too have not recv'd my check yet, and I am a single mother, boy I really could use this money.

Stimulus payments are running "behind" this schedule...much behind. For people like Lorraine in PA, this has become a nightmare. Another indication of just how bad this economy is .... she is desperate for her $300 or $600. The only help she has is "patience", and I am sure she is about to run out of that.

Posted by: ncwoman on May 30, 2008 at 06:07 AM
I don't know when I will receive my payment either. However, I did learn on the IRS website that you can't find out when your payment is coming until 6 weeks AFTER you mailed your return. I didn't mail my return until April 14 because I had to pay taxes this year. Its not been 6 weeks yet so it will probably be late June or July.

It's like my daddy always told me: You Can't miss what you never had. I'm not looking for any money, therefore I can't miss what I never got. I'm not getting my hopes up for something that may not come. That way I can't get all bent out of shape if I don't get anything, and I won't spend money I don't have.

Posted by: Mary Location: North Carolina on May 28, 2008 at 03:46 PM
Anyone know if people who owe back child support will have their check confiscated? I am owed $29,000 by my son's father!....& i just found out i'm not even getting the $600, either, only $300 for myself...hope I'll get it in July like you said!

Posted by: tb Location: nc on May 28, 2008 at 02:11 PM
I agree with you Kat... I bet anonymous is waiting for his/her check too unless they have already gotten it. That or either they are mad because they did not get one because they were well either too poor or too rich. Thats sad but true.

Posted by: Kat on May 28, 2008 at 11:35 AM
To Anonymous: Then you must be rich, because the way I see it they are just giving a very small percentage of the money they stole from me in the first place.

The IRS sent out letters stating that some taxpayers didn't receive everything they were suppose to get. These people would receive an additional check in July to make up the difference. I received a letter yesterday.

The Internal Revenew Service has no way of letting the public ask questions regarding their stimulus payment. I have a child that they never sent money for. The child has met all the qualifications but I have no way of getting a hold of them to find out what happened to the missing 300 dollars. What is up with the phone number that they post on the letter they send out. No operators are available to answer questions. The wedsite has proven to be useless to my situation as well. I've spoken to other familes that say the same thing has happened to them and they arn't going to fight it cause they don't want to go through the hassle. What's up with this. Very fustrating. This missing 300 Dollars may help pay for my gas next time I fill up:)

My dads was mailed out on the May 16th and he got his on May 18th. Hope this will ease some of your minds when they say the check is in the mail.

Well truth be told that the IRS told President Bush that they dissagree with giving us a stimulus check and that they refused to send them out. President Bush told them that they were ordered to send out the checks to help the economy. I believe that one of the previous writers said that they are picking and choosing who they are sending it out to. I would have to agree. Though I don't know how they are coming about their choice. My grandma lost her husband and is living on retirement she needs the money and hasn't gotten hers yet. I would also like to talk to the people who are being mean to the people who are writing on here. You don't have to be mean and condescending to other people who are voicing their opinion about the fact they need the money that's not very nice. Just because you are looking forward to the money doesn't mean that you self centered or greedy. It just means that you are looking forward to something you were promised, that is a normal human response. So be nice.

Stimulus checks were to be mailed out at the end of April through the beginning of May. This is to help people. Now we learn there are problems with getting the checks out. How can you boost the economic situation if you do not back what you stated you were going to do? Unfortunately some people planned to use the checks for common sense situations, such as pay bills. Amazing

And the message below is the God's honest truth! Go to the IRS website and even here all the questions you are asking have already been answered. If all else fails, call the person who prepared your taxes! Posted by: Anonymous on May 15, 2008 at 05:56 PM If some of you would take the time to do a little RESEARCH of your own you could figure out when and how you are getting your check, nearly every question has been answered below, and people still ask the same questions over and over! To Ellie: So you want a democrat in office? You want to pay MORE taxes? That's what the democrats do. The republicans aren't much better. What we need is someone that is neither democrat or republican in office. But a democrat is by far worst. They will take more and more taxes for useless programs that take more money from the middle class than anyone else. And of course if you don't agree with those taxes you cannot just NOT pay the taxes or you go to jail. You are paying for the right to live while the government steals more and more money. We need to get rid of income taxes, not put someone in office who will make sure that we get more and more money stolen from us. (http://www.fairtax.org)

As I peruse through various readers comments,it is obvious to me that "Ignorance is bliss and alot of people are happy as hell". Having worked for the Federal government for 32 years, both military and civilian, the Dems and Republicans are equally incompetent. Anyone who thinks the Federal Government can manage anything is ill-informed. Our legislators are nothing more than a bunch of chest thumping, camera grabbing blow-hards who are in it for frame and greed. Let the States manage their problems and keep the Federal Government out of the loop. If you remove the "birdseed" from the feeder the birds will go somewhere else. You ain't seen nothing yet.....Wake up America....

We need to pray for our government and the things that are happening in our world today. God is the only one that will be able to turn things around for our good. Sometimes the hold ups are to let us know that God is still in control and man does not run the show. We need to put our trust in God, not president Bush nor "Man". Have faith, and believe that your check will arrive and watch god. Be Blessed to all of you.

I wanted to share this with every one that has been asking about confirmation about the fees and how they affected your stimulus. This was sent to me by Turbo Tax themselves. We want to provide you with the most up–to–date information about the tax rebate to which you may be entitled. Recently, you may have received a letter from the IRS advising you when to expect your Economic Stimulus Payment (rebate). That IRS letter may have inadvertently left off some important information. Taxpayers who chose to have their tax preparation fees deducted from their federal tax refund will receive their tax rebate in the mail, not via direct deposit.I hope you find this information helpful. If you still have questions, the best source for the most up-to-date information is www.irs.gov (see the "Rebate Payment Questions" link).

Well, let me add to the bitchers and moaners! At first I thought what a dumb idea for the government to give us all money only to have to claim it on our taxes as earned income. When I found out we didn't have to my attitude quickly changed and was excited to receive my $600.00 promised as a single person. Well, when I checked my account last week I had only received $300. What a rip off. My girlfriend received her promised $600.00. I guess our government picks and chooses randomly maybe who gets what, when you call to inquire on why you are left on eternal hold or get ahold of someone who can't answer your polite question; or sticks you on eternal hold! What we need is a Democrat in office to really make changes and lead this country back in the right direction. In my opinion the last 8 yrs has been a bad dream.

Posted by: Ben on May 16, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Wow there are a lot of whinners here. But I can understand I was expecting $600 and why not the news says all tax paying adults get $600 but nope this AM looked at my account and only got $300. What a rip off. Now I can't pay my bills. As I had to float someone else last week since I knew I was getting my stimuls check today (for an expected $600) but nope didn't happen. SO the governement screws us all again. Gee G. Bush your family gets' rich and ther rest of us suffer. Republicans suck. I'm sure the governement has heard the complaints. WHy offer a stimulas if your going to not really give it to those who are the working poor? So GW don't expect any real improvement. I don't even make enough to pay for my student loans so how does that help me.

This is the first time I have been on this site, and it was to find out why we didn't get a check. I can't believe the comments that are posted on here! Some of you people are out of your minds!!! I need the money, and no I haven't spent it yet, BUT if I had it would have been either on food, or a house payment. Due to the fact that because of our lousy government my husband has lost his job - because the company could no longer continue, because of the state of our economy. How dare anyone say I am splurging - I do work, we have a nine year old, and are just trying to make sure our bills get paid, so we don't loose our house as so many others have. When we bought our house 7 years ago we made over twice the amount of money that we make now!! Thanks to all of you who are accusing me of not doing what I have to do - it sucks that you feel like anyone who needs their check should just wait on it to come. Oh and by the way we THOUGHT we were getting $1500, instead it will be $900. Nice Huh

Posted by: Jen Location: Connecticut on May 16, 2008 at 09:24 AM
It is pretty obvious that it is much easier to be rude and judgemental when you are "advising" your fellow countrymen from behind a keyboard. That said, don't spend money you don't have yet. However, being disappointed at not receiving what you have been promised is not a character flaw. It is misleading that it wasn't made clear that tax prep fees would affect the disbursement of this money. Why would you expect anything less? The last 8 years have been full of glazed over facts and misleading news. Rest assured those who are due will get it in July (something to look forward too when everyone elses is spent and gone) and only 249 days left until Bush & Co. are out of office! God help us!! =)

Hi Eric, I respect your oppinion, but I see it this way. If the government hadn't screwed up the economy so badly, they wouldn't need to send out the money in the first place. Also I just so happens that when we had our last child, we both had really good jobs, and were making great money. I think that the way the ecconomy got so messed up, made people lose jobs, overopulation. All of the illeagal imagrants that were abel to slip accross the border and take our jobs, getting benifits from our tax mney. You know, the money that we pay out of our pay checks. I feel that they messed up, and now they are trying to fix it. I just don't really think that it will work. If the ecconomy of the united astates wasn't so messed up in the first place. People wouldnt have gotten laid off and forced to take lesser paying jobs. Like I say. I respect your oppinion, but its not all black and white, like you make it out to be.

I think that someone in public office should try to help with the gas prices. That is really putting a strain on American families and is why we really need this in the first place. We need to elect someone in office who will help us and stop all of these oil companies from getting richer when we can't even afford to fill up. Even if gas prices go down, the cost of milk, eggs and everything else won't go down.

I agree totally with CHAD. Sorry, bad things have happened to people and all, but you didn't have a stimulus check in the past years and your still breathing. It's just pure greed. Yes, I am expecting one but, its money I don't have now & whenever it get here is fine with me. And as far as the large families of 6 or whatever, quit procreating!! It's not everyone elses fault you decided to have large families & now things are getting a little tough. I'm am just sick of how spoiled everyone is acting about "where's my money?" If you ask me you don't deserve a thing!!!!

My question is about the fees taken out...Does anyone know when we could expect the money? Will it still be direct deposited(if that's the way I had it done to start with) or will it come in a paper check? Anyone that knows where I can find that information out, please let me know. Thanks...

Posted by: Nicole Location: Las Vegas on May 14, 2008 at 02:03 PM
I was supposed to get my check direct deposit on the 9th now thanks to reading posts I see why I didn't get it.I had my fees taken out of my refund. The IRS should have told people about this new information. Thank you. I also noticed a lot of people havening trouble with insurance because of the cost for medical and prescription. I know of a site that might be able to help. www.mybenefitsplus.com/bncurry. Its not insurance its just discount benefits and I love it. I don't have to wait for an ok to get anything done. I have medical, dental, prescription and other stuff. Its cool. I had to get work done on my teeth root canals joy $1800 I am broke but had to do it. Showed my Ameriplan card I paid $700 still broke but not as much. Any way sorry to ramble thanks to all for the stimulus info and hope the site I gave can help some people like it did me. Bless all.

Well said Sarah, As for Chad, Well not all of us that work, have jobs that pay enough to suport a family of 6. Some people may have had great jobs, but got laid off. Don't even tell me that we don't work. I happent to work overnights, Im going to collage, and the rest of the time, Im taking care of 2 preschoolers. Wheres the time for rest? you do the math. Dont you ever put down anyone untill youve been in their place. I hope for your sake that you never are. Get off of your high horse. There are people who ARE DEPENDING on this money, just to get a little ahead, or to stay afloat. I agree with Sarah. If our government can take all of our money to take care of all of these people in forign countries, Why shouldnt they use some of it to take care of people right in our own backyards? I dont want to hear the welfare speal either. this money is for the working people who pay taxes. Not all working class are on easy street. Im happy for those of you that are. Just dont put the rest down.

ashley: check your grandparents' account. whatever number is used when you originally filed is the same one the irs will use.

I should have stated more in my previous post. We filed in Feb by direct deposit. The last two of the SSN is 27. We got our $2100 stimulus check on time by direct deposit on May 9. I hope this gives a little hope to those waiting.

Posted by: Kris Location: California on May 14, 2008 at 04:10 AM
You know, if you think about it the reason the DD for the stimulus not working makes sense. The IRS was sent information on two different banks; your bank and your tax persons bank. Even though you figure they should know your bank by your name, that is a lot of people they would have to go through to distinguish between the two. So the easy answer is to just send a check. Lazy, true. Sucks, I know. But that is the IRS. Easy for them, hard on us.

But we got $953. what's up with that??? I could understand $600, or maybe $900... But $953??? How did they come up with that? We were supposed to get $1200!

By the way, I don't really understand a lot about these issues and stuff, but I think that rather than sending us the money, hy dont they reset our credit instead. people with good or excelent credit, should keep their credit. People that have poor credit, should just start over. I think if credit bebt was eliminated, then people would be able to spend more. and thats what they want. I think now, the way it is, people are just going to use the money to pay off their debts. Thats not going to help the economy the way they want it to. At least not right away. As I said, Im far from an expert on this subject. Im just wondering. I know that if we had good credit, We could buy a house. It would save us rent money we would spend the same amount on a house payment. It would also help the real estate.

Yes i have experienced it too I was supposed to get it on may 9th also and it is not here yet either i did my taxes online e file and direct deposit back the first week in feb and still haven't got mine. don't bother calling they are too busy

got our stimulus check friday may 9.

Posted by: jan Location: nc on May 13, 2008 at 10:26 AM
Good Gracious, I guess everyone would really flip out if they decided not to send them out at all. All of you who are spending money on the basis that you will be getting money is crazy. That is absolutely absurd. you cannot depend on something that you have no control over. This country is in such a mess they might decide not to send it out at all. anything could happen, if you get one be happy and if you don't you still have no losses. What the government should have done was just send them out and then say what it was for then everyone wouldn't be expecting it. Everyone of you are acting like children. You simply don't count on something you have no control over.

My last two digits is 42. I did electronic filing with direct deposit. I was supposed to get my deposit on the 9th. NOT THERE YET! Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm curious to know what some of you are going to do after you get this refund check????? It's hard to believe that some of you are actually calling for $300-$600 dollars. If you stop calling them, maybe you will get the check sooner. They're probably busy answering the phones.

Posted by: Confused in Carolina Location: Ayden on May 12, 2008 at 11:46 PM
The government wants us to go out and spend, spend, spend that rebate check, but money managers tells us the smart thing to do is invest it or put it in a money CD. Many really need to pay off some debt and will no doubt put at least half on that instead. Good for them.

Posted by: Misinformed Location: somewhere USA on May 12, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Hmmm IRS and direct deposit is so misleading. They have failed to mention that if you had your taxes done by a Tax preparer and direct deposited from them that you will receive a paper check instead of direct deposit. Isn't that so nice of our government people to keep us informed. Well thank you anyways Uncle Sam for the free money.

Posted by: Jesse Location: Greenville on May 12, 2008 at 04:35 PM
Yeah well, this is the kind of person that won't be happy no matter what so good luck trying to please everyone...I've always operated under the old saying, "if you're aiming to please everyone, you will always fail." Clearly, nobody can please the guy below. Nevermind, its free money...he would rather argue about them not getting it to him in time on his schedule. They could have probably kept it and not ever given it back to us. By the way, the IRS isn't who makes the ultimate decision to put this money back into the economy. The decision comes from multiple politicians, gov't departments and people that constantly get bashed on here like our most unpopular president. The IRS does the groundwork from there after the package is signed by the president. Just the processes mentioned (which I'm sure I've missed a ton of them) take an extreme amount of time, organization and money spent to even coordinate getting these payments out to U.S. citizens. So excuse them for taking a while

Thanks, ZC - eventually being the key word. To others, this is not the same as the previous rebate - we will not have to claim it as income next year. (Keep in mind, it is a one time rebate, however it is for 2008 but they used 2007 numbers to determine who is eliglble. If your 2007 numbers made you ineligible, but you are eligible based on 2008 numbers, you can claim the rebate next year.) This still does not help me, however. I am the tax accountant who should have gotten a direct deposit last week and did not. Yes, the majority of people, including most of my clients, have gotten the rebate according to schedule. But some of us have not, and the IRS does not seem to know why. You can check the IRS website (www.irs.gov) to access information on your rebate, but that did not help me. And being on hold with the IRS for 40 minutes, then just being told that they "think" I will get a check at the end of June did nothing for my confidence in the system. Thanks "Dubya".

Posted by: Angry guy Location: Socal on May 12, 2008 at 02:59 PM
I think this whole rebate schedule is just a way for the irs to make us spend more than we actually have. They hype people up and say it is coming earlier than expected, when it is really coming later than expected. My rebate went from may2nd to june 20th. I dont know why they dont have DD information when it is printed right on the tax returns. I think those IRS people are probably sleeping on our tax forms right now. thanks alot IRS for using our money and taking your time to give it back!

Posted by: Zc Location: Indy on May 12, 2008 at 01:58 PM
You will not have to claim this money, if you receive any, on your taxes next year according the governement. You also will not be deducted you retrun on your 2008 taxes. There are tons of stipulations on why some people are getting direct depsoit or not, and the amount you are going to get. Sit down, shut up, and wait for your money. If you meet all the requirements, you will get something eventually.

from what i heard the check was running 4 days ahead of what they were supposed to the go in the order of the last two numbers of your social security mine are 89 i should get mine direct deposit on the 16th the last pay out. i am only hope to get the 300 if i get 600 good! but no one should depend on this money coming dont count your chickens before they hatch. The only reason the gov is doing this is to hopefully stop a resession which is def just going to cause inflation if your smart you will save the money the gov is trying to circulate more money through the economy. as back in the day they used to have to have Gold to back up the money which is not the case anymore i wouldnt be surprised if we had a a depression.

the money is not free. that was a lesson a few years back with these same checks. i have learned that absolutely nothing is free. people just tell you that. its sad how folks work there butts off, pay taxes on everything and still have to pay for getting your own money. two parent families get 1200 or more single family 600. sad, sad, sad

filed with turbo tax and eiligle for $1200.00 by direct deposit. My last two digits are 21. Still no money. I see this is also happening to other people who have left comments here also. I don't need this money, but if your Government tells you something, why shouldn't you expect it?

Posted by: Justin Location: Virginia on May 12, 2008 at 11:41 AM
The IRS lies. I got 500 less than I expected, and no one can give me a clear reason why. I don't owe the IRS any money, I haven't missed a Student Loan payment. My wife and I don't make too much or too little combined income. ANd my Payment was lowered. Now, I cant get that Giant TV

As mentioned before, don't count on this money. If you spend it before you get it, them you don't get it, you're stuck. A girl I work with thought she would get a check. She went out and spent a bunch of money. I tried to warn people NOT to look for anything. A lot of people are getting their feelings hurt, b/c they aren't getting the money. Next year when you file your 2008 taxes, you'll have to claim the money you get. It's NOT free.

My husband and I opted to get our tax refund directed deposited, so we thought the stimulus payment would happen the same way..NOT! We were supposed to get the stimulus payment May 9, but its not there! Called the IRS number and they guestimated us getting ours by CHECK late JUNE.. What's up with that?? I'm expecting a baby in JUNE, I needed that money for furniture and other things!! Don't know what I'm going to do now... If the IRS puts down a schedule, they need to stick to it!! I was really hoping for that money this week.

Well, just for everyones info. I got my refund today, me and my husband, and got back 1,200 a week earlier that the schedule said. Automatic draft of course, as that's how we filed originally. My son also got his back today, single, and didn't make all that much, got $600.00. he also filed electronically. His girl friend did the H & R block credit card thing, and she will get her's back in the form of a paper check.

I think it is wrong that we have to wait so long for a small amount of money and the gas prices are still rising. I think we should get our stimulius check the same time the people who got direct deposit did. It's not like it's a million dollars or something.

Hate to tell ya, but most health insurance through any type of company, is pretty useless now. Unless you want to go spend the hundreds of dollars to buy it yourself. I doubt that the military insurance is any worse than mine or anybody else.

O.K so very confused about the whole paper check direct deposit thing. My friend filed with H&R Block and got her refund direct deposited and got her stimulus payment direct deposited. Yet so many people are saying that isnt going to happen. Well i know better seen the paper they sent to her showing the deposit. So all I can say to everyone is hold your breath and just pray you get one. And for the military know it all on here.. I too am a military wife I actually have 7 current immediate family members serving this country and to clarify our great circumstances.. Our health care is like having medicaid...our Bah is like section 8 housing. In a nut shell being a soldier is like being on welfare except you work for it.

I am a tax accountant. Many of my clients have already received their rebate by direct deposit as they were supposed to . I did everything right for myself - I filed in February (No choice - I have three kids in college and needed this for FAFSA reasons, otherwise I would have been on extension!) I received both Federal and State refunds by direct deposit. Scheduled to receive my rebate today by Direct Deposit. Guess what? No rebate. Don't assume that since it worked for you, it works for everyone. I called the IRS - they 'think" I am receiveing it by check instead in June. But they dont know why, or if this is definate. Not very helpful! Thanks, "W" . Stupid idea, anyway, but if everyone else is getting it, I want mine too.

I also had fees deducted from refund using turbotax. Called the bank this morning and no money... should have been here today if being direct deposited and it is not. I, for one, am never going to use turbotax again, as we should have been notified of this by turbotax! I spent hours researching this last night and they even have it on the website:http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/kb/tax-content/tax-tips/6255.html hope it helps you all be clear that this is crazy stupid, and I hope that turbotax has a fieldday with their complaints!

I am going to have to agree with kat on this one, alison I do feel sorry for you that you are sick at this time. Have you thought about disability? Also I am military and if there is a time that you can work when you feel better you can also get daycare assistance. I know what the paycharts are and I have read about how there is not that much money when they go oversea's. I beg to differ with you I have saved over 30,000 dollars. I have two children and my family lives within our means. I do not have one credit card bill and I budget budget budget. So you saying the pay sucks to some it might but remember being in the miltary has it's perks. Think about how much health insurance is if we had to pay, think about the tax free money we get if a spouse go's over to Iraq. Also think about this do you have to worry if your husband is going to get laid off. Think of the positives remember this is the choice we made.

Posted by: Kat on May 9, 2008 at 02:21 PM
To Alison: No it's not any of my business. I just get tired of hearing people complain if they COULD work. I can understand why you wouldn't be able to if you are physically sick. But you are in the minority of people that actually deserve some breaks. A lot of people complain when they are not trying to help the situation. That was what bothered me about your response. As for the pay, without taxes it would be plenty. With taxes, on some of the lower ranks, would be a little difficult especially with family.

Posted by: Alison Location: Havelock on May 9, 2008 at 02:12 PM
To KAT: For one it is know of your business why I dont work and if we are living beyond our means. But if you must know, I am physically sick and I have children who require daycare. If I go to work I am working to pay taxes, daycare and gas. Apparantly you have not seen pay charts for the military. That pay is before the government gets their share and everything comes out of it. Spend a little time talking to military families and they will tell the pay sucks!!

To:mother of 3 Location -pinkhill..Honey we are so screwed. My friend is a tax accountant. She has inside info that anyone who used Turbo Tax, E-file, or H&R Block, etc did get direct deposits if they so choose too, however - if they elected to have the fees taken out of their refunds, they still fall in that unlucky pool of people who will have to wait for a papercheck. I actually went into an H&R Block location and did the Emerald Card Advance before I filed my own taxes for the remainder, and even though I prepared my own taxes, H&R Block was still the interceptor online, and low and behold, I'm in that "gotta wait for a check" category. My last two #'s are 58, and I was really expecting mine today - but now, it's looking like the week of June 20th will be my "lucky week"...I'm sorry if you had something planned for your money - but if you've made it this far, you'll be fine. Dealing with the IRS is never predictable anyway.

I really think the IRS is just making stuff up to try and answer peoples questions, but they know probably just as much as we do. I guess we will just wait and see. Maybe mine will turn up sometime. I guess I shouldn't complain about it, It is free money.... right?? just one question? was yours suppose to be in on this check cycle? Mine was scheduled for the 5th and I still haven't seen it. again thank you!!!

The question was why are you not working? Why is he taking on more than one job, and you aren't? Sounds to me like if you got a job, he wouldn't have to work two or three. Really sounds to me like you are living outside of your means.

My situation is a little different than what I have seen here. We filed our taxes with Turbo Tax but we did not get a refund. We had to pay more but did so electronically. According to the schedule we should have received our rebate no later than today. I checked irs.gov and surprise....no help there.

Posted by: Jacob Location: New Hampshire on May 9, 2008 at 05:12 AM
I just did the calculator on the IRS site, and it said I would get 600. The information was 100% correct that I entered. Yet when I went to my bank today I saw it was only 300. I just did the calculator again right now and it still says 600.00 How can this be? I went out and spent 600 the other day knowing I would get it back because of the IRS calculator and now only getting 300 just put me into debt! This is not fair, I would have NEVER spent the 600 if their site told me I would only get 300 like I did. Now I have more stress and worries over this whole ordeal than if I just didn't get ANYTHING back and this rebate crap never happened. I'm so angry right now, that I can put all my info in and it says 600, yet I only got 300. Its such a crock.

Posted by: Alison Location: havelock on May 8, 2008 at 07:18 PM
We did not get EIC on our taxes this year because my husband did not pay in enough taxes because he was deployed the whole year. You cannot tell me that we get enough money when my husband puts his life on the line for everyone in this country. Yes, he signed up by his own choice. The military has always been screwed when it comes to being paid. We only get good money when he is gone once every three years. What about the rest of the time when he is out working two other jobs to make ends meet? The bottom line..our government needs help..our children are going to be the ones who get screwed from all of this.

Posted by: BW Location: JERSEY on May 8, 2008 at 06:45 PM
I also used Turbo Tax online according to the Turbo Tax help desk anyone who filed on line and had there tax prep fee deducted will get a paper check anyone who paid their own fees via credit/debit card will still get direct deposit that's because the bank that turbo tax used to deduct the fees was a temp account that closed as soon as your money was transfered into your account the IRS does not have access to that account info therefore all us unlucky folk have to wait for paper to get ourpaper

Posted by: Nicki Location: NY on May 8, 2008 at 06:20 PM
Just goes to show that this stimulus check has everyone depending on it for whatever reason, another ploy by our government to screw us any way they can...noone can be sure when they are going to receive it, I came on wondering that because I filed with turbo tax that even though I gave them direct deposit info that because I file it this way, I will now be receiving a check thru the mail other than direct deposit....goes to show that something isn't for nothing and our government has come to bat for us AGAIN.....good luck to all of you that are depending on this monies..I've also heard that folks that were supposed to get a certain amount only got half, what the heck is up with that????I know better than to listen to ANY of our government officials....I'm a Democrat still trying to make something out of our candidates....to be honest, I am totally a Clinton supporter and know if she doesn't get the nomination, I WILL NOT VOTE....good luck all

Posted by: JD Location: New Bern on May 8, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Again, just because your refund was direct deposited does not mean your stimulus check will be. If you had any kind of fees withheld for tax preparation, you will receive a paper check. So, it doesn't matter really if your refund was dd or not; either way there should've been a notice at all the tax offices and online that if fees are withheld during preparation, your stimulus check will not be direct deposited regardless of the method you choose for your tax refund. BUT, there wasn't and I do blame the government for that. But, it's money and I will take it regardless of what method it comes in.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 8, 2008 at 03:53 PM
To JD: Thanks for your input, but other bloggers are saying that they got theirs refunds direct deposit even filing the way you and so many others have. so whats the deal with that? I think someone has screwed up somewhere.

seem to me that the government is screwing us AGAIN. For all of us who went HR Block, online, etc we have to wait for a paper check. Now why can they not do paper and direct deposit at the same time for each set of ss#'s? who knows it the government.

WHY DID I ONLY GET 300 INSTEAD OF 600?? The irs.gov stimulus calculator is wrong. You can find this information at http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=181991,00.html It basically says your stimulus payment is based on your net tax liability. so of your net tax liability is <= 300.00 all you will get is 300.00 . if your net tax liability is >=601.00 you will get 600.00 Your stimulus payment is equal to your net income tax liability, but no more than $600, if you are single, or $1,200, if you are married filing a joint return.

OK-I've already posted this once, but since some people are asking for help, I will say it again. If you had your tax preparation fees withheld from your rebate, regardless of if you did them yourself using Turbo Tax or TaxAct or if you took them somewhere such as H&R Block, then you will receive a paper check. As far as the website goes for checking your refund status-the status will not show up until after your refund has been processed. Meaning, if you are to receive a paper check after May 16, your status will not show up on the website until after the 16th. It states this on the website. We got our refund direct deposited into our account, however our preparation fees were withheld from our refund, so we will receive a paper check. I hope this helps answer some questions.

So I called the IRS to see what they had to say about it. I stayed on their hot line for 30mins before someone picked up. I asked the lady who answered the phone if she knew what the deal was if I filed with Turbo Tax and she said "I don't know how you will get your check back, I guess you'll find out when you get it." So if that helps at all why in the world would they have a hotline if they don't know anything. So again I guess I will know when I get it. But there was no reason for them to give us dates if they weren't going to use them.

Posted by: S on May 8, 2008 at 12:48 PM
I think the IRS is just choosing names at ranmdom and distributing the checks any old way. I agree, there are too many different stories and probably noone knows unless you actually work in the IRS office. But then, I don't think they know either. They have had ample time since the President okayed this stimulus, to get their ducks in a row.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 8, 2008 at 12:15 PM
I've heard so many different stories in regards to how we would get our checks, I don't know what to believe. There are some who say if you used direct deposit you will get it that way and some who say you will not. Could someone please give us some truth about it???

Posted by: Anonymous on May 8, 2008 at 11:59 AM
it doesnt matter how you filed your taxes.. if you went to a tax office, or used Turbo tax or whatever... if you got your tax refund DIRECT DEPOSITED, then you will get your stimulus pymt direct deposited.....

I paid 2600 in federal and 1200 in state. I got less than 1000 back and less than 200 back. Here's an idea Give me more of what i have already paid in. IT IS JUST A SHAME THAT THE TAX CODES ARE MADE FOR MARIIED PEOPLE WITH CHILDREN, AND NOT FOR EVERYBODY.

Posted by: JJ Location: NC on May 8, 2008 at 06:02 AM
Am I understanding this right? If me and my wife have College Foundation of NC loans, will we get our money or will it go toward our loans? Also if we have a child too and it goes to the loan, would that money be split b/t both accounts. If so that sucks...

To the militray people and those people who make under 35k who complain about little or no rebate check. Tell us how much you got for your EIC on your tax returns that the rest of us didnt. We are a military family and when my husband came back from Iraq, our tax return was HUGE because only roughly 2 months was taxable so it looked like a family of 6 made less than 20k. The return was THOUSANDS more than what we had paid that year. Heck, Id rather take that EIC for having tax free pay over the stimulus check. I still dont think military are paid enough for what they do, but for people who claim a lower income to complain they didnt get as much as those with a larger income do, thinkk about how much you got back on your return because of the EIC you qualified for that you DIDNT pay but got as 'free' money the rest of us didnt.

Posted by: JD Location: New Bern on May 7, 2008 at 05:28 PM
OK-I had to jump in with the military pay. We have been active duty military for 7 years now, and my husband is currently serving his 4th (yes 4th!!!) tour in Iraq, and is due for Afghanistan next year after his return in Nov. Yes, they do make more while being over there, however it is hardly anything if you have a family to care for. Most of that extra pay that is brought in is used to ship boxes back over to him. I find is ridiculous that they can offer civilians over $100,000.00 just to go for 3 months, while the active duty doesn't even see a quarter of that amount. Especially when they work 7 days a week for 8 months straight. The military protects every person in this nation; they should be the highest paying personnel.

Thank you Alison....I don't usually get into these things but when it comes to my kids...I don't back down. Hey Kat....do you know for a fact what a pair of combat boots cost? I mean the ones that are tough enough so their feet won't be blistered from the hot sand? What my son has earned tax free working 24/7 in Iraq will be used to replenish his gear to go back in a few months for his third tour. What may seem like alot to some is not much for those who have to buy expensive gear. I just ran the calculator....he is making about $2.87 an hour...combat pay (he is a grunt). Not alot when you are being shot at. Yep, he signed up for it and I am proud of him. His father and I both work and pay our taxes, I just wish more went to help our military.

Posted by: Kat on May 7, 2008 at 03:47 PM
I have to wonder what these people complaining about military pay consider LITTLE? I know for a fact what they make over there with NO taxes coming out and it is by far NOT little. And Alison, since I saw somewhere down there that you aren't getting any tax money back which means that you do not work or make very little? Is this because you cannot or will not? Cause technically you would have still gotten that check had you been working and not expecting him to support you.

Posted by: Alison Location: Havelock on May 7, 2008 at 03:09 PM
TO ME: Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers! It is nice to know that there are actually people out there who truly understand! I will pray for your son's safe return.

Posted by: me Location: nc on May 7, 2008 at 02:27 PM
God Bless you Alison and your family. My son is in Iraq too and I know how little they make. Yes they do make a little bit more for combat pay but when you consider they are working pretty much 24/7 it is very little. There is no way my son could support a family on his pay. He spends alot of his pay on gear that he needs to stay safe. And the GI bill...what a joke! Shame on our government for not taking care of our military!

Posted by: JD Location: New Bern on May 7, 2008 at 02:16 PM
Yes-there is a stimulus refund check on the irs website, BUT, if your refund has not been processed it will state that no information is retrieved. You must wait until after the date you are to receive your refund to check the status. I didn't use H&R Block because they wanted to charge us over $300!!! I did them myself on Turbo Tax paying only $30 for the state and got back exactly the same amount. H&R Block is a rip off!!! But, you will get a paper check if you had fees withheld regardless of the method you used in preparation. I too agree that this should have been a notice when filing that having fees withheld would have affected the stimulus check.

Posted by: m Location: eastern nc on May 7, 2008 at 01:37 PM
there is a place on the irs website under 'where's my refund' that people can check again for the stimulus check. when you get there you have to pick '07 refund' or 'stimulus/rebate check'. you need the first ssn listed on the 07 taxes, number of exemptions claimed, and the filing status used. after all this, it gives a date. of course, it's not guaranteed. hope this helps.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 7, 2008 at 01:34 PM
I have not received my check and it was suppose to be deposited on May 2... I filed with H & R Block and my fees came out of my refund... if this was going to affect the date of me getting my refund, why didn't the government make this known to tax payers? Insted of misleading tax payers to a specific date..........

Posted by: Eri on May 7, 2008 at 12:54 PM
So basically we have been lied to yet again by a government instituation, with the "trasmitted no later than" wording listed on the IRS site. My last 2 digits are 32 and I am not even scheduled for anything yet. Some say wait until the 9th, (or your perspective "date") but please...it ain't coming until the initial time they said in the first place. It was all hype and no truth. Oh, and please don't hit me up with all of your "free money, be thankful comments". I give them a hellova lot of free money every year called TAXES, that they squander and waste!! Bottom line....THEY SUCK!!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Spring,tx on May 7, 2008 at 10:54 AM
If you have gone to irs.gov and it says no information on your check yet. That means that it has not been processed as of yet.FYI they are not on time with the schedule. My ssn ends in 06 and my check date is may the 16. That is what the website said. Just kept checking the irs site to see when there is info on your check. That is going to be the correct information.

That was confirmed to me by someone on the inside. I feel for the one person I learned I would not get my money until late june due to filling with a tax company but thankfully I will atleast get something.

Hey LMN; if you owed the government money for a student loan, then you shouldn't have gotten your refund either. So you should have already known that you weren't getting a rebate. Maybe pay your student loans on time and that wouldn't happen? dont blame the government for that.

hey chell; maybe you should go seek one of those programs to better YOURSELF and learn how to type and articulate. I find all of your comments very offensive. Some people work 3 jobs to make ends meet, and sometimes they still don't meet. I filed my taxes in february and got my rebate. I didn't need it, had ample amount of money in the bank, but it was nice to see. Im sure when you get ur rebate ur going to just rip up the check huh?? lol yea right. you'll be spending it like everyone else. get educated, and think before you speak (or type)

I found this out and thought it might help some people. If you filed your taxes online through TaxAct or TurboTax or something like that and you chose to have the fees withheld from your tax rebate, you will have a paper check mailed out to you. Even if your entire tax refund was direct deposited, you had fees come out of it before it was deposited, so therefore you will receive a check in the mail. I hope this answers some questions. It answered mine.

I filed my taxes direct deposit through Taxact in Feb and I found out yesterday that I'm going to receive my rebate Friday May 9th direct deposit into my account. So it doesn't look like it has anything to do with taxact.

My husband and I filed our 2007 taxes in January, received our refund in Feb by Direct deposit and I just found out this morning that we are getting a rebate but it will be mailed and not until June 27th. We can not get anyone on the phone from IRS to find out why only the automated part. The only reason we can figure out is that we did out taxes through taxact....So for everyone who did their taxes through Taxact or Turbotax..plan to wait for a paper check in the mail. This is very frustrating because we were not told that until after we planned on the money at least by May 16th at the latest. Should have know better to trust the government not to give all the details. No we are in a pinch again with the rest of America to scrap up some money to take care of our family for another month for that money was to stock up on groceries. The hardest part is explaining to your children that life for them in the future is suppose to be better and it is not.

We do not have to claim this money on our taxes next year, nor is it a loan. This a was a rebate that we were going to get on our 2008 taxes but it was decieded that it would be given earlier. Also if anyone wants to know where there rebate is they do have a link on the irs website called where is my stimulas package.

Comment Edited.

This money isn't free, you will have to claim it as income when you file your 2008 taxes. That's where the government gets you. They say it's free money, but it's not. The US borrowed the money from China. How do you think it's going to get paid back? That's right we, the people who get the checks, will end up paying it back.

To anonymous: Ya know if I sat back like you and said it's never going to change anything then I would feel like I never at least tried. You say get over it like so many people. I say take a stand, people need to start making their voices heard rather than just "getting over it" all the time. The wrongs will never be righted with thinking like that. I will not just get over it. I have complained about the wrongness of income taxes for years and will keep on until they change to the fair tax. www.fairtax.org Only an idiot would send the money back. But it is and always will be a slap in the face from the government (ha ha look at me I have control over all your money, that will be our government if we keep letting this go on). God help us all with the president hopefuls wanting to instate a universal health care plan that we WILL pay extra taxes for and it won't be worth a thing. No thank you! Or the free community college that the governor hopefuls want, MORE taxes!

Taxes...Taxes...Taxes... It doesn't matter if they take our money or give it back, if I recall correctly from BASIC history, we started our own country in part because of unfair taxes(and before somebody reads this and says something, I said IN-PART, I know there were other reasons as well). And where are we today, more taxes than were ever even thought of back then. Shows alot, doesn't it? As far as this stimulus check, it doesn't matter to me. My family was broke before the check and we will still be broke after the check.

My $1800 "stimulus" showed up in my bank account yesterday. I quickly moved it to my savings account. I may use it to reduce the amount owed on my daughter's car... since she, and future generations will be responsible for reimbursing the government for the rebates. Come to think of it, don't I end up paying taxes on this, at least twice? Maybe three times!?!

I called the stimulas hotline number, since we had not seen our rebate check as of the 2nd. I was told that if you filed through Jackson hewitt, Liberty tax, H&R Block. ETC then you will recive it via mail. Even if you did DIRECT DEPOSIT. only because your refund went through the company's bank so they can get their fees and then went to your bank. HOPe this helps some of you!

I agree with with Kat. I have children and work myself to death to support them. No one elses tax money provides for my children or me. I dont think its fair at all that I work 3 jobs and have to pay taxes out of my salary, then pay taxes on my property, taxes on my food, taxes on my lights, my car, taxes on everything. I pay the government so I can live, what is wrong with this picture?? And the government thinks I am only worth $600??? Give me a break.. I will take the money, if I get it (which I was already supposed to have according to the new schedule) and I will spend it wisely, but its almost a slap in the face compared to what they have taken from me.

To Anonymous: It's exactly that kind of thinking that keeps the sorry income tax system going. A gift? It's not a gift when it was mine to begin with. They should never have been able to take it in the first place. The only way they will ever make me happy is do away with ALL taxes that come out of income and start a national sales tax. That is what is called FAIR. Anybody that thinks it is fair to have to pay for other people's children school when they don't have any children themselves, to pay for all these many welfare services that should have way MORE rules to run properly, etc, is what I call greedy. Greedy for others to take care of them so that they never have to. The IRS should be done away with. It's wrong to work your butt off to only see a small portion of what you should have earned. I will never stop speaking my mind until they get rid of income taxes (that includes the soc sec tax, medicare tax, state tax, and fed tax). When they are gone, I will stop. Not until.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: greenville on May 2, 2008 at 06:41 AM
With all the complaining i don't think anyone will have to worry about this happening again next year.Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, just take the money and quit complaining, or better yet return it to the I.R.S.

Posted by: Kat on May 1, 2008 at 04:26 PM
To "to Kat": That does not work when you are single with no kids. Single people are HIT harder than any other paid person. Borrowing by definition means you what the person borrowed back. The government MIGHT give a very small portion of that money back. That is still called STEALING. Sorry but there is nothing in the world that will make it right for the government to take my hard earned money just to have the right to live. And yes it is the right to live because otherwise they put you in jail.

Posted by: to Kat Location: greenville on May 1, 2008 at 04:07 PM
The government doesn't "steal" your money, they "borrow" it. If you don't like it, then change your withholding and how many you claim, and you may be able to come out even and get more in your regular paycheck.

Posted by: Lyle Mcclanahan Location: Wichita, Kansas on May 1, 2008 at 02:42 PM
The irs.gov stimulus calculator is wrong. You can find this information at http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=181991,00.html It basically says your stimulus payment is based on your net tax liability. so of your net tax liability is <= 300.00 all you will get is 300.00 . if your net tax liability is >=601.00 you will get 600.00 Your stimulus payment is equal to your net income tax liability, but no more than $600, if you are single, or $1,200, if you are married filing a joint return.

Posted by: mom2 Location: Greenville on May 1, 2008 at 01:40 PM
TO:MOM the fact is that he will not get the $600 because he was a dependent nor will you get it because he is 17 or over. It makes no sense at all why just as children get more expensive Car, insurance, graduation exp. college, ect. the goverment takes the child credits away if your did not get a child credit you won't get stimulus payment for your child either, sucks for parents like us who are still trying to help our kids get ahead in life instead of throwing them out in the wrld to make it with no education.

Filed electonically in Feb, got my return via Direct Deposit in March. Completed the worksheet on irs.gov and they say I get 1200. My SSN ends in 03 - No check. I know they have until May 2 - but I would have thought it would be here by now hearing and seeing what is happening to others. Am I impatient or is this happening to others?

I should be thankful huh? They should have to give back all taxes that came out of income. They stole our hard earned money. I should not have to pay the government for the right to live, which is exactly what money coming out of my paycheck IS. It's pretty pathetic when you get a job that you are supposably making such and such amount but really it's another MUCH smaller amount. Yes they should get money for the roads and military, etc from us, but not from our pay. Besides the fact that it means drug dealers and illegal immigrants never pay taxes. A National sales tax INSTEAD of income tax would mean EVERYONE pays those taxes and at least we would have control over our OWN money. When people vote they should vote for the people that support the fair tax. http://www.fairtax.org

Well some of those people compalining @ what you have received should be happy that you got something. I have not even received mine yet. I chose direct deposit, but have not seen anything yet. My SSN# ends in 42. Do you think that i should have already had mine or am i not getting one @ all. I would be happy with wgat ever i receive if anything. So stopp crying for those of you who thought that you were getting more than you did.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone on here by my selfish comments. I am sorry that people are jealous over the fact that I can go to the Naval Hospital free of charge and get horrible medical care. At least you have a choice in the matter. I am not trying to make anyone feel bad that they are getting a check. I was trying to make people see that the lower class working people are getting screwed in this matter. I dont care about the money. My husband and many others like him, who actually have a lot of bills to pay because of that lousy income when they are here, could have really benefited from it. I hope that this rebate check does for this country what it was meant to do. I came from a very poor family growing up and I know how expensive things can be. My husband works just as hard as anyone else. I am sorry if it offends you so that he gets "free things as you put it" because of what he does for a living.

The way the cost of living has gone up, people should be thankful for what they are getting.I'm 37 years old and i dont ever remember getting an extra check before. You could get nothing.

Posted by: surprised Location: jacksonville on May 1, 2008 at 01:05 AM
alison I know alot more about the military way of life and pay than you realize, you are not making your case anymore than you did before. Why don't you ask any civilian how much medical insurance is, and how much is taken out of our paychecks. You can go to the Naval Hospital free of charge and you can also get your medicine there again free of charge. I pay well over 600 a month for medical and dental. My parents pay over 800 dollars. I am sorry that while he is here that the pay is not up to par, but again as someone stated he made that choice. The bottom line is you are not getting the rebate because his money was tax free. If I had tax free money last year I wouldn't care if I was getting the rebate or not. I would actually make out better if it was tax free then getting the rebate. So do not come on here trying to make people feel bad that they are getting a rebate check. We are getting a very small portion that we paid in. I do not think I can spell it out any plainer for you.

well the government(I.R.S) lied again my wife and myself filed jointly and got $600 it was direct deposit as the last 2 of my social was 00. I guess it's ok to lie when you are the government or a political figure

Posted by: Alison Location: Havelock on Apr 30, 2008 at 10:09 PM
Oh by the way surprised..that cost of living increase is taken by the taxes that we pay each year. You really need to check into what you are saying before you just run off at the mouth. Military and proud of it!

Posted by: Alison Location: Havelock on Apr 30, 2008 at 10:08 PM
To surprised..If you knew anything about the military we do not get anything free. everything we get medical, BAH, and all that other "free" stuff comes right out of my husband's paycheck. You need to know your facts before you speak. I do not complain about my husband being over there. He deserves every penny he gets for defending people like you. I am very proud of him and I support him and all of our troops one hundred percent. You talk about combat pay. He only gets it when he is at war. What about the lousy pay he gets while he is here the rest of time? I would absolutly be grateful to get that little bit of money everyone else is complaining about. At least I would be able to put clothes on my children and food in their stomachs, and possibly pay for the high gasoline that my husband puts into his vehicle to drive two hours to and from every day.

To Ethel: YES! A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush! Don't spend it until you get it in your hands! Needless to say, it is gone before you get it. I am used to nothing, I have to pay every year I file.Stimulus? Whatever.

Posted by: km Location: eastern nc on Apr 30, 2008 at 01:07 PM
to mom: if your son was claimed on your tax return for 2007 he will not get the stimulus check because he was claimed as a dependent. dependents are not counted towards getting the stimulus check. so you will not get one for him because of those things.

Posted by: also suprised Location: kinston on Apr 30, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Good post suprised. Although we respect your husband for being overseas and fighting for our freedom. He knew when he signed up that he may be put in harms way. I know about how much the soliders get for being over there not to mention the extra they get for combat pay, etc.

As I was told as growing up. Don't ever count your chickens until they hatch. They all may be dead when they come out of the egg. This rebate whatever is the same. Don't count until you see that little change. And that is what it amounts to. Change this day and time.

Posted by: surprised Location: jacksonville on Apr 30, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Alison are you serious? You and your family have not been screwed why don't you tell everyone how much your husband made while he was in Irag and you did not have to pay taxes on that income. While some of us have paid in thousands of dollars for the monies we have made. So this is the money were are getting back. So instead of you getting it now your recieved all of this money while he was in irag. Please do not use the whole sacrifices bit just because you are not getting a rebate check. For your husband sacrifices you get free medical BAH and your husband having tax free money when he was overseas. So should we complain because we have to pay for medical and I don't see a cost of living increase in my paychecks every year. Quit your complaining

Posted by: Kathy Location: Washington on Apr 30, 2008 at 11:14 AM
My husband & I did NOT get the $1200. I guess because his name was first and he does not work. NOT FAIR!!!!!! I just got back what the IRS took from me. Explain that to me??????

Posted by: Alison Location: Havelock on Apr 30, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Well, I hope everyone enjoys that little bit of money. My husband was in Iraq the whole year and did not make the $3000 dollars because his pay was tax free. We do not rate the rebate check. He is out defending this country and we get screwed. Never mind the sacrifices my family and others have made for this country.

I have a question about the refund. My 18 year old son has his own job and files his own taxes, yet we are still able to claim him on our tax return, even though since he's over 17 we can't get the 1000 credit for him. Will he get the refund of 600, or will it come to us in the form of 300? Anybody? (he really wants the money :) )

Posted by: bj Location: bertie on Apr 30, 2008 at 09:25 AM
To An Upset Taxpayer - that is right, if you file as single then you get $300.00. If you file as a couple then you get $600.00. $300.00 for head of household and $300.00 for spouse which equals $600.00 per couple. There is a site to go on to caluclate what you will get back. Click on the site above these comments. It works I did it. And to Tim, why is this so unfair. The more income you make the more you pay in taxes. So the higher the income the more estimate of $600.00 you will recieve back. Why should I pay more taxes and get less, verses you pay less taxes and get more money back. Then I could vouch to that being Unfair. Your choice of the income you chose to settle with not the world that you are blaming. I agree with Anonymous. Won't more money??? Get a better job and make more money!!!!!

To Kimberly McNeil: The IRS will go by the head of household SS #. My husband and I file jointly so they will go by his #. My CPA has told me how much we will be getting back. @ of my friends got theirs yesterday, b/c of direct deposit. I look at it this way: it won't hurt me to wait a few more days for the money.

Posted by: km Location: eastern nc on Apr 29, 2008 at 05:20 PM
The IRS goes by the number listed first on the tax return when filing joint.

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 29, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Guess yall better get better jobs then. Im getting my 600. Sorry "An Upset Taxpayer"

Posted by: Tim Location: Eastern NC on Apr 29, 2008 at 12:35 PM
People are right when they are saying they will only get 300. People can go to www.irs.gov and read about it because unless you have a adjusted gross income of 35000 you will not 600 dollars if you make less than 35000 adjusted gross income it will go down. It is wrong in my opinion the people making the 12000 a year should get the 600. I was shocked when I only make around 16000 and I am a individual and only got 300 and my friend is a banker and makes 36000 a year and single like me he gets 600 dollars whats wrong with this picture. So who needs to read now? Check all facts before claiming people jump the gun.

Posted by: An Upset Taxpayer! on Apr 29, 2008 at 12:18 PM
To Anonymous you need to read also. I went to the site at the IRS and it said that I would only get 300 and I am an individual. So when you get less then they are promising you dont fly high!

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 29, 2008 at 11:53 AM
An Upset Taxpayer. READ above. It is 600 for individuals (I guess you arent one), 1200 for couples (which is 600 for each man and wife) and 300 for EACH child. No lies, no suprises, just READ before jumping the gun, READ

Posted by: Kimberly McNeill Location: Kinston, NC on Apr 29, 2008 at 11:28 AM
I was wondering if you filed a joint return which of the two SSN's would the IRS go by the smallest or would they go by the first name on the return.

Posted by: An Upset Taxpayer! Location: Eastern NC on Apr 29, 2008 at 10:43 AM
I think it is sorry for the IRS to send people with a AGI of 35000 or more a 600 dollar rebate and the poorer people making a 12000 AGI or less only 300 dollars. I thought the more you make the less you get this is backwards again. No surprise our government is backwards anyway always helping the rich and living off the poor. People need to stand up and complain to the President because he lied to us again as he normally does. Save your rebate for gas this summer because you will need it. Bush does not have to worry because we pay for his gas. So what is 300 dollars going to do for the lower income people when 300 dollars will only buy about 3 tanks of gas. Who in there right mind is going to spend this for the economy when you are worried about how to get to work? The old attage is correct no matter what happens the rich gets richer and the poor get poorer and our government helps them do this how sad is this. GOD is not happy with his! No weapon formed againist me shall prosper!

Posted by: Kat on Apr 29, 2008 at 08:49 AM
I am glad that they are sending me a VERY small portion of what they stole from me back. But it's like sending a tiny bread crumb. It's not really going to help anybody. Sure it will help a little but not really. How bout the government sends the thousands they stole from me rather than a measley few hundred? And before that thousands makes people jump I don't make that much and they take over a third of my pay every month. All this little stimulus does is make me more angry that they aren't willing to actually HELP people. And it's not like anybody is really going to be using this money for anything other than bills (since it's such a small amount in regards to what things cost now) so it is NOT helping the economy.

i have a question what if u got ur refund on the h&r block prepaid card ,do we get our refund in a check or how

Posted by: tim Location: jacksonville on Apr 29, 2008 at 05:55 AM
i'm still trying to figure out how they are determining the direct deposits? basically, if i filed my taxes online, and chose direct deposit, should i be expecting them to direct deposit my stimulus?

Posted by: Melissa Location: GVegas on Apr 28, 2008 at 04:20 PM
For those of you who got prepaid cards for your refunds, you will get a paper check... Only if you mailed your tax forms to the IRS and had them deposit your refund directly into your bank account will the IRS deposit into your bank account.

Posted by: JJ Location: NC on Apr 28, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Will the the direct deposit checks start today or next Monday???

Posted by: mother of 3 Location: pink hill on Apr 28, 2008 at 03:01 PM
I have the same question, anonymous from greenville. Matter of fact I had already blogged that question and WITN decided it wasnt important enough to post I guess.....We went with the prepaid mastercard that H&R Block had.

Kimberly I agree I too would like to see an updated schedule.

Posted by: Kathy Location: Washington on Apr 28, 2008 at 01:14 PM
The checks are a week earlier than posted at the IRS site. My stimulus check was scheduled for May 2 but arrived in my back on April 25. SURPRISE!!!!!!!

Posted by: anonymous Location: greenville on Apr 28, 2008 at 11:37 AM
I was wondering if you recieved your 06/07 taxes on a card how would you recieve your stimulus check

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 28, 2008 at 11:26 AM
The schedule doesnt match what is being said now about when we will get these checks. Some of us are depending upon this money for bills and such, as everything except for wages keeps rising.

The little boy who died of methadone needs to be investigated but in reality he could have taken any kind of prescription pills in the medicine cabinet and his mom would never have known. Just because it was methadone pills doesn't really mean anything. Methadone shouldn't be singled out by itself. Other pain pills and other prescription medicine is just as dangerous to our children.

Posted by: kimberly Location: belhaven on Apr 28, 2008 at 06:45 AM
schedule for payments is useless. It's the same as the IRS has had on it's site since Feb. Would like an updated schedule since time frame for checks being sent out has changed.
