It looks as if Wayne County students will get the Memorial Day holiday off after all.
The county's school calendar originally had students in class for the traditional start of summer, but concerns were recently raised about that decision.
The school board plans to vote at its May 5th meeting to give students May 26th off, but also require students to be in class on Saturday, May 31st. That day will be an "early release" day.
Wayne County's school superintendent says had concerns been raised earlier in the year, the school system would have had more options in picking a makeup day.
School events previously scheduled for May 26th will be rescheduled to May 31st.
