Up on the Roof

Print

Greenville police will be perched on downtown rooftops armed with video cameras beginning Wednesday night. It's part of an intense effort to head off potential trouble in an area where there have been complaints of an increase in crime. And with thousands of ECU college students back in town, police say there will be a zero tolerance policy for anyone who's disruptive, publicly intoxicated, or physically abusive. That's why the department is paying officers overtime to have more of them on foot patrols, in driving units and even on rooftops with video cameras. The beefed up presence will remain through Sunday night. Officers also say it's against the law to just stand on the sidewalk or in parking lots, and they will break up large groups doing that.
