Preserving the Old Courthouse

Print

It's full of mold and deemed unusable by health officials. Nevertheless, residents in Hyde County want the courthouse preserved. Hurricane Isabel did a number on the courthouse in 2003. It's been empty since then. Residents and county officials met in Swan Quarter Tuesday night to discuss how to utilize the old building. Since 2003 Hyde County court has been held in the firehouse. Construction on a new courthouse and jail will begin in early October.
