The focus is looking ahead to the future, not pointing the finger for what's been done in the past. That's the mission of a grassroots organization shaping up in Bertie county. Eight residents formed the "Bertie County Citizens For Excellence And Accountability In Public Education." The group's founder John Davis says the group spent months researching how potential mispending may have occurred in the school system. Davis says the group found huge loopholes in current policies and procedures that gave some school officials tremendous authority when it came to the school's finances. The organization is circulating a petition in support of their goals. Several county commissioners, school board members and citizens attended the group's first meeting Thursday.
