Its a new program that would make sure emergency workers are ready to go when a hurricane threatens the North Carolina coast by providing care for children of county employees who are single parents, so they can focus on their job in this time of emergency. Onslow County's Smart Start partnership says only a handful of first responders have signed up in Onslow County, but that the numbers did grow as Hurricane Irene approached the North Carolina coast last week and word spread about the program.
