It was not where Marines from Camp Lejeune expected to take enemy fire... aboard their Navy ships at a friendly port in Jordan. But that's what happened Friday morning when terrorists fired three rockets at the U.S.S. Ashland and Kearsarge. We spoke with the Marine's boss aboard one of those the ship's following that incident. Colonel Tom Qualls has Eastern Carolina ties, besides being assigned to Camp Lejeune. Colonel Qualls is also a 1978 graduate of ECU and his thoughts shortly after that incident were to get word back home that his troops were O.K. And while the Navy ships did have to leave the port, within about 90 minutes, the colonel said word was already on the way to Marine families that their mission will continue.
