First Case of West Nile Virus in Human Is in Pitt County

North Carolina has reported it's first human case of the West Nile virus. The victim is a 17-year-old Pitt County girl. The unidentified teen is recovering at home and is reported to be doing well. The virus caused an inflammation of her brain and spinal cord. Health officials say they just got the confirmation Wednesday afternoon that her illness was indeed West Nile. People who pose the greatest risk of having a serious illness from the West Nile virus are folks who are over the age of 50.
