Eastern North Carolina Perfect Breeding Ground for Mosquitoes

Print

Could where you live mean there's more mosquitoes? Doctor Alice Anderson, a professor of Environmental Health at East Carolina University, says yes. Anderson points out Eastern North Carolina has the ideal mix of vegetation, climate and people that mosquitoes thrive in. But she also says where you travel and your exposure to mosquitoes also factor into the possibility of becoming infected with West Nile. Anderson recommends those with weakened immune systems like the elderly and the young take extra precautions. Last month a horse in Duplin County was euthanized after the virus was discovered.
