Kids Left Home Alone

Two Craven County mothers have been arrested after authorities say they left their five kids, ages eleven months to ten years, home alone while they went to Virginia for the weekend. New Bern Police say they were called to Craven Terrace Apartments after a report that the children were left unattended. They say when they arrived they found the door locked and the children crying. A neighbor with a key was able to let them inside where they say they found the kids unsupervised. Police have arrested 23-year-old Avita Roach and 21-year-old Myra Reaves, charging them with child abuse. The kids are in the temporary custody of the Craven County Department of Social Services.
